BTW, even if you've never played Okami and never watched Mononoke, you cannot help but be impressed by the way this picture is made of awesome. (The significance of the circle being drawn is that in the game, you paint a circle in the sky to make the night go away and the sun come out.)

Oooh, that guy in the background on the giant stilts is from "Ayakashi," which, if you haven't seen, YOU NEED TO.

He's also from Mononoke - they spun off a 12-episode series starring him. :D

(I've got disc 3 of Ayakashi on the way. XD)

DId they? Oooh, I need to find that, because the brief story in Ayakashi rocked all.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yupyup! :D It's 12 eps, and I think 4 stories. If you click on the 'mononoke' tag I've got a link to a post on the LJ comm for it that has some official art in it.

Score. I'm gonna hunt for it after I get back to Japan, because *squee*. The cat story was the creepiest one in Ayakashi, so I'd love to see more with that guy. :D

...and who is this prety gong-gil?

[identity profile] homasse.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I'm always SO glad when someone asks. XD

Gong-gil is a character from the movie The King and the Clown (http://lunapark6.com/the-king-and-the-clown-the-kings-man-%ec%99%95%ec%9d%98-%eb%82%a8%ec%9e%90.html). Gong-gil is, well, prettier than everyone, which causes him problems when the (crazy as a loon) king takes a liking to him. It's a great, great movie; I watched it with a roommate and we spent the whoel time going, "OK, WTF is Gong-gil's and that other guy's relationship?! I can't figure it oooooooout! *whine*", "...wow, Gong-gil's pretty," and "...the king is BATSHIT INSANE. BAT. SHIT."

Oh my. I loved Okami, and this is making me think I should put Mononoke on the to-watch list.

Yes. Yes, you should.

Okami? What is this? Pretty picture makes me want to watch. Yes!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okami is a game. You play Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess, in the form of a wolf, and travel through a mythological Japan using the power of calligraphy to defeat evil - you learn to to draw symbols that do things like change the night to day and vice versa, and call the wind and draw lily pads (when you need to cross water). You also have weapons, which are rather like the Imperial Regalia of Japan - the flaming disk on human!Amaterasu's back in the picture is the Mirror, used here as a shield of sorts. XD

The artwork is STUNNING. I've never seen anything like it.

It's coming out for the Wii next year, from what I hear, and the Wiimote is absolutely made for playing the game - it's a bit awkward to try to draw things on the left thumb-stick on the PS2 controller.

Wow, I'm not really sure what to say! That picture is getting much more notice than I ever anticipated... I'm incredibly flattered, thank you for all the kind words here.

:D You deserve it - it's a wonderful picture!

(And I intended to reply earlier, but the comment notification aged off my front page too quickly and I forgot until I saw your page on Manga Revolution when I signed up today. XD)
