Hello Kitties!

You may or may not remember me mentioning in the Japan trip reports that someone - I think it was [livejournal.com profile] m00nface - mentioned early on to us that you could get Hello Kitty phone charms that were specialized for different regions of Japan. So I started collecting them, because they were silly and packed small.

Well, my Kyoto box with the rest of my souvenirs got here today, so I've taken some photos. :D Most of them are still in the packaging because I've forgotten what a couple are and wanted people who read Japanese to translate them for me because I have no idea where I got them. XD

But the Genji ones I got in Kyoto are unpacked! :D

LOOK! LOOK! HELLO KITTY MURASAKI AND GENJI! In HEIAN GARB! See how Murasaki's got the multilayered court robes? And is holding her manuscript? And Genji's got a fan and is pointing it imperiously at you?

On the back you can see that Murasaki's train is long (and has trees painted on it), and that Genji's wearing that silly Heian hat with the springy thing that drapes down in back. When I unpackage the rest, I'll take more shots of them from the side. XD

I took one photo of the rest of them, which is here:

And then cropped out each individual Hello Kitty, some of which are actually in focus!

This fuzzy one was the one commemorating the crab restaurant we ate lunch at in Kyoto with the giant animatronic crab on the front. I wasn't going to get it, until I desperately needed a restroom due to my lactose intolerance pills Not Working and ran back to the restaurant to use their facilities, so bought one because it seemed the right thing to do.

This one is from Kita-Kamakura, where the giant Buddha statue is. In case you can't see well, it's a giant plastic Buddha with a small Hello Kitty in its lap.

This is the Hello Kitty from the ritzy end of Harajuku, wearing what looks to be Chanel. I didn't see the loligoth Harajuku one, but [livejournal.com profile] homasse has one of those. XD

The first Hello Kitty that I've forgotten where I bought it! This one is holding on to a big lantern, so I presume a temple or festival of some sort.

This one mystifies me even more! It's a Hello Kitty with a pacifier in her mouth riding on a cat.

I got this one in Magome, along the Nakasendo Road. I think it's a pilgrim Hello Kitty, as it's got the pilgrim hat, but it's also wearing a small cape. Hm.

And the last, from Yokohama Chinatown. This one's wearing a panda suit and holding a giant steamed bun. XD
