Lomography. Totally awesome. May have to do it.

In other words, at work today from 11 AM to 8 PM, taking turns at the ref desk with one of the other ref librarians. Entertain me! (If you post a nonworksafe link, mark it so I can look at it when I'm sequestered in my office, rather than when I'm on the desk. :D)

Will attempt to start answering my pile o'email. Hah bloody hah.

Hello! I am kinda ditching an anime con today because I am too lazy to leave until I am forced to in order to buy food, and because I have kinda been nonstop mainlining Cable & Deadpool nonstop, which keeps making me wheezelaugh and has the most adorably disgusting buddycops-in-love meetcute ever, and which continues to freak me out because it is in color, and no one is using honorifics, and there are no shoujo bubbles anywhere, and WHAT KIND OF CRAZY WORLD IS THIS. Nonstop until there is no more, i.e. now, i.e. WAIL. Also HUNGRY but addressing that requires venturing into the cruel, cancerous rays of the sun. Addressing the lack of C&D by staring at torrent sites until my eyes dry out is not working either.

I think at least I can order food online. Hmmm.

I really ought to start reading Deadpool. Every time I see something with him in it, it's funny.

His series(eseses) keep getting canceled, though (I found out C&DP just was, AAGH). Stop breaking my heart, merc with a mouth! But he is still consistently hilarious. (Though am sulking that either Spidey or Deadpool will be made unfunny when crossing over from his own title, as apparently there can be only one Humor Seme per series.)

And the buddycop WTF pairing (one of my bulletproof kinks, naturally) of C&DP works oddly well to balance the early '90s hasbeens characters, Deadpool with some pathos and Cable with some drop non-Mary Sue personality. Cable + most speshulest manly telepath Terminator Gandhi from the future who is related to 99% of the X-Men and is probably Magneto's godson = ohmygodmakeitstopcanwepleasejusthavenoplotinsteadever. Cable + wannabe therapist who sekritly hires Deadpool for fake assassination attempts to improve DP's self-esteem = INAPPROPRIATELY CUTE.

(Cable with trust issues + Deadpool with bouts of lethal amnesiac blackouts + fake assassination gone awry when someone else kills the guy = my heart goes squish in an odd way)

None of this makes up for the Rob Liefeld covers*, though. SWEET ZOMBIE BUDDHA, LIEFELD. WHYYYYYYYYYY?

*better! cuter! odder!

That Liefeld still gets work should be the great hope or great despair of aspiring artists.

How are they still friends after a kick in the crotch like this?!

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
The world would be a better place if Liefeld got his drawing hand caught in a trash compactor.

So last night [livejournal.com profile] kintail and I were in a restaurant, having all you can eat sushi, and tried the cold soba. It came with a wee tiny egg, in the shell, sitting on a nest of wasabi, and a big tub of tangy thin sauce. And we peered at the egg and tasted the sauce and thought: "if only we had [livejournal.com profile] telophase's cell phone number! we could text her and ask - but what do you do with the egg??"

^_^

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Quail egg! Socute! XD Depends whether the egg is raw or boiled! If boiled, you eat. If raw, you crack into ... er, something in your meal*, mix it in, and eat the result. :D

Mmmm, eggs. *starts craving eggs*

* I've only encountered it with rice. We had breakfast at Tokyo Station while waiting for the shinkansen on the way to Koyasa, and I had a breakfast platter that included many things, including an egg, which I assumed was boiled since I'd had one a couple of days ago that was boiled. Imagine my surprise when I cracked it, seinding [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija into fits of laughter. I did manage to salvage it and dump it properly into my rice bowl. :D

[identity profile] nekonexus.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
^_^ It was indeed raw. They had cut the top off the egg so we could see the inside. We finally determined the best course of action would be to dump it in the tangy sauce and mix it. It did help the sauce stick the soba when we dipped those in, so we must have guessed right.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! They should really distribute guides to these sorts of things sometimes. XD

Oo, oo, I have a question for my favourite reference librarian! Of course you are not obliged to research it for me, but it may interest you to do so.

Has anyone ever done any academic studies on Cats in Boxes? Is there a Theory of why, if a cat and an open box of at least half the size of the cat are placed in the same area, the cat must be in the box if at all possible? Does this give them some kind of survival-of-the-fittest advantage? I have been curious about this for some time!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Good question! I'm heading out to lunch shortly, but I shall start looking when I get back. (and I *can* count it on the reference stats, as an email question by a non-student. XD)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And the answer: not so far as I can tell. Although I did discover in the course of my searching that scientists often use experimental boxes when studying cats, for whatever reason, so they kept turning up in my searches. XD

Now, with better HTML!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a non-academic theory here (http://www.catsplay.com/thedailycat/2003-11-10/editor/2003-11-10.html).

These comics might amuse you (assuming you're not already familiar with Weregeek). They're clean but geeky. The one listed first has a theory about hair styles in anime/manga that made me laugh (that link will change the next time the comic updates, but I couldn't find the link for that strip specifically).

Also; where did you download "Dr.Who"? (I was watching it on CBS, when it was on at 1:30am, but they changed the time-slot, and I have missed like 2 seasons)

Oh and why do you think Hor didn't eat 'what's-her-name' (the chick with big-boobs and glasses) right away like he ate that random blue-haired boy? I believe it would have made the anime even more angsty if the chick Bocca was trying to save got eaten (almost FMA and Mina-esk).

Any basic remedies for tendinitis? I have developed it again, but am too far from a drug-store, and am also "with the cash of a College student, who has not gotten Student Loans yet" (I avoid spending over $10 at a time, but have splurged a few times since I only have 10 days left until MONEY! :D...)

Could you look-up some stuff on Vindobala for me? Or Hadrian's Wall in general (I just want some better pictures, and atleast a paragraph that isn't in old English)? I did a school project on it and had a hard time finding information to do my write-up with.

Oh and how is t3h cat? Nefer was it?

Ok-kay!

Yeah what about "cats in baskets'? I know mine will sit in just about anything...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, there is a dearth of scholarly work researching cats' seating preferences. I feel this is a serious problem.

Sorry to whine, but I never did get the Journal Fen account info that was supposed to be emailed to me.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Emailed you.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And now I know why you enver got it:

Technical details of permanent failure:

550-unrouteable mail domain "gmail.com"

[identity profile] darksumomo.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF? I've never seen that happen to an active gmail account or the gmail domain itself before.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Emailed you from a different account - I'm betting that the same thing that happened with my Gmail account happened with the Journalfen server.

If *that* doesn't get to you, I'll make an LJ filter with only you on it and post the info I think I remember there. :)

[identity profile] darksumomo.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It worked. I now have a working journal fen account.

I actually got a lomography camera for my b-day last year. It takes 4 pictures a fraction of a second apart.

Not sure. I just discovered the site and the concept and haven't had much of a chance to go through it yet. XD

Nifty!
