Just finished watching the new Doctor Who, and without spoiling anything I can say: sweet! I was a bit worried that the special effects would be too good for proper DW, but they settled into a nice cheesiness, including a badly-composited photograph. I like this Doctor's personality a lot.

And now I can go read other people's impressions ... hm, there's got to be wank about it somewhere.

I remember watching the old one a lot when I was younger... How new is the new series? Do you know the aprox year?

It premiered in England tonight (well, last night, seeing as how it's now 12:00 AM). :)

Wow! That's awesome!

Did you find it on BT? I suspect that I am going to need it for one of my housemates.

Yup - search at pqrt.org and you'll get it. Nice copy, too.

My man squeaked outrage at the photo. (He does digital art as a hobby.) But I agree with what you've said - I think the new Dr is great (love the accent and he has a nice hint of darkness about him), and Rose had pleasantly Buffy-esque undertones. I loved that her boyfriend was clinging to her all cowardly. ^_~

And, um, hello and thanks for friending me back. *shy*

You're welcome! :)

They'd started with the last Doctor or two, to give them companions that had *some* sort of backbone, but love Ace as much as I do, to me she comes across as overcompensating for the lack of strong female characters. :) But at least nobody can get away with companions whose whole purpose is to scream "DOCTOR!" anymore. :)

Well, even Tegan was better than that.

Of course, since that guy quit after the first epsiode because he didn't want to be typecast, we now have to wait for them to re-do the new series. On the bright side, they might choose David Tennant.

Where are people finding the thing about typecasting? All the sources I've read say that he didn't realize how grueling a schedule filming a full TV schedule was and decided that one season was enough.

I saw a BBC article on it. It had a news clip with a reporter saying he had said that, but since it was never filmed they didn't have any actual voice of him saying it. The article also talked to a previous Dr. Who who said his fear of being typecast was probably not unfounded. I think it was this one: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4395849.stm

No problem.
