I NOW OWN A COPY OF VOLUME ONE OF KAZUYA MINEKURA'S ORIGINAL SAIYUKI DOUJINSHI!!!!!!


I paid fifty bucks for it at Mandarake and it is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!!

They had volume 2 as well, but it was also $50 and I couldn:t bring myself to pay $100 total. But I now have a friend here in Tokyo (Yokohama), sho_sunaga, who has said she will be happy to buy it for me and ship it when my resolve weakens and I can't stand it any longer.

READ IT AND WEEP, YOU PEONS!!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe I got it for only $50!! (Well, 5200 yen, which is roughly $50). EEEEE! They had a few other things of hers there, too - what looked like a copy of a doujinshi of Wild Adapter, and something that was completely unfamiliar to me. Plus what looked vaguely like the Backgammon artbook - only it was a doujinshi, I *think* - and cost $125.

(While you're still in Japan - i.e., in reasonable proximity of the doujinshi store of DOOM - this may be a good time to tell you that I need another copy each of "Project Blue Rose" and "Spindrift" and will be sending you $$. $$ that maybe you should put towards defraying the cost of Vol. 2. I'm just sayin'.)

The mangaka of Saiyuki started as a doujinshi artist. And published Saiyuki first as a doujinshi. It's reportedly hard to find, and I've never found it scanned anywhere online, just a couple of pages. I found a copy of it on display in the manga/doujinshi shop Mandarake, and it is now MINE. XD

Ahhhh and all becomes clear! :) I have had similar experiences with books that have been out of print for a billion years and any copies being snapped up for ridiculous prices, only to then wander in to a little used shop and see a pristine copy just sitting around on the shelves at retail price. :D

It's at those times that gloating is fully allowed and possibly even expected. ;)
