Bad news and good news...

Bad news: I have now thoroughly established that if wheat or gluten is a migraine rigger for me, it is certainly not the only migraine trigger. Ow. Am hoping legumes are not a trigger - I've eaten a lot of black bean salsa in the past two days and have a lot left over to eat. :/

Good news: There will be a total lunar eclipse visible over large parts of Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas the night of August 28th, which is one of the nights that [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija and I will be in Koyasan, on top of a mountain, in a small quiet town with no nightlife. Provided it's not clouded over, the view should be great. And early, too: it'll be at moonrise on that side of the Pacific. You people over here in the Americas right now will have to get up early early to watch it - the midpoint of the eclipse occurs about 5:30 AM Central time.

Here's the lowdown about the good news part. Hubby's aunt sent it to me:

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am . It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

I must shake a fist at you are your luck and my own mild jealousy--at that very time, I should be in a plane on the way to Japan to start a yearlong Study Abroad program. XD

It should be lovely, especially outside of the major cities.

You might be able to see it outside the window. :D Where are you going to be?

That would be fabulous. And make for a very impressive opening spread in a manga, I think. XD I'm going to be living in Fuchu-shi, part of greater Tokyo, and going to school in Mitaka-shi, which is right next door. The first few nights will be spent adjusting at a hotel in Kichijoji, where I have good word that there is a night-long open gyuuniku stand for the hungry and jet-lagged traveler. *grin* I'm pretty sure what my first meal in Japan's gonna end up being...

Sounds like fun! :D And you're right - that would be a great opening spread. XD

[livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija and I will be in Tokyo after the Koyasan visit until Sep 4th or something like that - if you end up having any time and want to catch lunch or dinner or something at some point, let us know. :D

Oh, awesome. I may have to get up early just to see that. I'm usually not a morning person at all, but that sounds too cool to miss! Don't know how well I'll be able to see things since I live in a city, but it's worth a shot. Lucky you, you'll probably have an excellent view!

Ha! [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper and I will be in Yokohama. I wonder if we'll be able to see anything?

Thank you so much for the heads-up! The kareshi would love to see this, as would I, and we can easily head up into the mountains to get a better view.
