Spindrift cover painting!
Done!
This is, obviously, the cover without all the title, author, and blurb cruft. :)

And man those mountains like to kill me before I figured out that a good pseudo-cell-shading approach worked best. I am so totally not painting mountains for a good long time to come.
ETA: Please do NOT mention things that could be done better about it because I have to get the entire damn book laid out TOMORROW and sent to the printer by WEDNESDAY. When it goes inot a second printing, you can have your say then, but right now I am in an OMG I AM GOING TO EXPLODE state of mind because there are *still* edits to be done and extra stuff to be written for the inside and I cannot do one more thing on this cover.
(The final version is actually slightly brighter - I brightened it upa fter uploading this.)

Only thing...right now background looks too sharp against the figures, but I assume you will be softening it as you go?

I still think the icecaps are too sharply delineated (makes your eyes go back and forth between them and the figures). Otoh, the ice caps will be the back of the book...
far be it for me to question why they're fighting half-naked on top of icy mountainsnudity anytime anywhere any way I can get, that is the motivation of my life~no subject
(b) there will be a big blue translucent stripe right across the mountains. :)
(c) this is in RGB, and the cover is printed in CMYK, which has somehow softened them

(I'm so ticked ... our office firewall is whimsical about Photobucket - sometimes things load nicely and sometimes they don't. It was a good sport about the drafts and now it's choking on the final, so I may have to wait 'til I get home to see what everyone's talking about.)

Naaaah, that won't work, DeviantArt is out-and-out blocked ... !
And anyway it's all better now: I cleared my cache a couple of times and finally got it to come up (just before I had to go off and "drive" the computer for a speaker who was demo'ing our draft new HR page for an audience ... gee, I love mousing for a crowd ... especially when a pop-up box appears in the middle of the demo telling you to re-boot the computer for updates to take effect, and everyone can see it on not one but two screens ...).
Very nice indeed! And I think that once the banner and text are in place, the "sharpness" of the mountains will not be any sort of issue at all. The skin tones turned out really well also. You're so cool!!!
