Sneak preview...ish

I've been grappling with thumbnails for Spindrift, the Next Thing that [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija and I have been working on, and naturally since I'm doing this, what I really want to do is draw the characters. XD

This is in progress - it's not finished yet, because I still need to clean up the inking, work out where the faces look weird and fix that, and color in the other guy's hair - it's all supposed to be black.

Please also do not take their appearances to be the final versions - they're not quite right, and I'm working on getting them to fit my original character designs. Haven't quite made it yet. :)

Meet Manoj, with the grin, and Rinchen, with the knife. Rinchen's hair isn't that girly, really. Think less "sorority girl" and more "tangled mess."

Will our two protagonists get over their innate differences to get together, or will they realize that they can't stand the sight of each other? You'll just have to wait until I draw it Spindrift is published. Coming soon, to an A-Kon near you!

Everyone wants to take shots of the jumps, obviously. XD I figured that real fighting wouldn't involve that much jumping, because they seemed to leave themselves wide open to disembowelment unless both people were jumping at the same time. Sort of like Chinese opera style kung fu like you see in the movies as opposed to real fighting-type kung fu.

You will, one day, have to tell me about getting violently ejected from the school. XD

So, I approached the handsome thirty-something man whom I thought was the sensei and asked for his permission to observe the classes and take photographs. He said sure. So there I was, peacefully observing, but he apparently did not explain to the students what I was doing, including Evil French Girl. Nor did he mention the matter to his father, the grandmaster. DA-DA-DA-DOOM!

Evil French Girl proceeds to rat me out to the grandmaster, whom I had not previously known existed. Next thing I know a very tall and fit-looking old man is looming over me, telling me in no uncertain terms to get out and never come back, before he THROWS ME OUT. I fled in such a hurry that I left my camera behind, and had to slink back the next day to retrieve it, skulking like a ninja until I spotted Nice Sensei. Who returned my camera and apologized, saying that his father, who had very recently turned over the school to his son, was a bit crotchety and he hadn't expected him to come to the school. But in case he did, I still couldn't come back.
