I was without power for nearly 4 days in 108 degrees in July.

I nearly cut off my fingers from sheer boredom- if I couldn't type, what was the point of having them anymore?

I would probably be attempting to construct an internet out of twigs and leaves.

I tried using my cell phone. It takes a VERY long time to load anything. It was like a trip back to 1992 and my 12k dialup modem.

I'm such an old fart that I remember when 9600 baud was hot stuff.

I think my dad's first modem was 2400. It was mine, too: I inherited it when he died. XD My next one was significantly faster.

I remember 2400 baud. *shudders* Luckily my first modem was 9600 baud back in 1994 or 1995.

I think it was circa late-80s. He died in 1992, and I used it once or twice, but didn't get another modem until I went to grad school in 1994, whereupon my computer came with a blazing-fast comparatively 28K. But the grad student housing I lived in was wired for Ethernet during my first semester, so I didn't use it a whole lot. :)
