To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.

Just finished watching part 2 of the Hogfather movie/miniseries/whatchamacallit. I think it's pretty close to being the best sort of film interpretation you're going to get from one of Pratchett's books. :D I was actually impressed by how much they left in, and I could see the logic behind what they left out (although I will naturally mourn the loss of the Librarian due to cutting out subplots and the CGI that would have been required). They kept my favorite line, in the subject, which comes from a discussion of what it means to be human.

Anyway ... HO. HO. HO.

I got the Hogfather book in my stocking when it came out in paperback, and spent Christmas morning reading it. Now I reallyreallyreally want to reread it, but have missed all deadlines to get it sent over here before Christmas. Woe. *weeps for the tragedy* I suppose I'll have to scour YouTube for this movie thingy version instead, which I only heard about for the first time yesterday. I loved the animated adaptations of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters from years ago though, even though they weren't the most sophisticated thing ever.

If you can do BitTorrent, it's up there. If not, it'll probably end up on YouTube soon. :)

Like the animated versions, it's not as funny as the book, but so much of the humor comes from the narration and the setup that when you extract the story from it, a lot stays behind. Which isn't bad, just different.

But Nobby Nobbs, despite being rather ferretlike, was just too human to really be the Nobby in my mind. (And I never viewed the Omnians as having vaguely-Russian accents, either...)

onoz, ho ho ho'd.

(I got nothin', really... and i haven't read Hogfather, yet)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The makes a lot more sense once you've read it. :D

[identity profile] jspurlin.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
ah. later I'll come back and read this again, then... *grin*

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. Ohhhhh, yes. XD

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh! I shall have to torrent that!

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Is the University cut out altogether? I'd hate to lose Hex and its wishlist.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
No, the University's there, but they've mixed events around a little. Hex is there, but ... it's not as much there as it was in the book (so as not to give any spoilers away XD).

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome. I will have to find some way of viewing this soon.

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you thank you thank you! I didn't know such a thing existed!

Now I will find it. Oh, yes I will.

When will someone do something good with Brust? That's what I want to know.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
:D You're welcome! I found it on eztvefnet.org, but it's probably on all the major torrent sites by now.

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2006-12-30 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Now that I have finished downloading and watching it (thanks, eMule!) I wanted to thank you again for pointing it out. Excuse my language, but it was fucking awesome. In fact, I kept exclaiming to that effect at high volume every twenty minutes or so.

I owe you a debt.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-30 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. Oooooohhhhhhhhh, yes.

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
You mean besides that god-awful comic adaptation? I actually own that, and for sheer comedic value, it can't be beat.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
You OWN that? I've only ever seen one page, and that cost me quite a few SAN points!

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I could probably be persuaded to scan the whole thing in and post it to share the giggles.

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, why not. I get off early tomorrow anyway.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
XDDD

Of course, I won't be able to appreciate it for a few days - I'm going to Mom's house tomorrow, and she's on dial-up. The horror.

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll save it for an after-Christmas present then. I still need to scan in some of my Banana Fish artbook for [livejournal.com profile] bish_a_day, too.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] homasse will love you forever if you do that!

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
I knew there was another Banana Fish fan on your flist. I just couldn't remember who it was.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
There seems to be everything on my f-list. XD Except for speakers of Thai, and I'm sure that's only a matter of time.

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
There was a comic adaption of Jhereg?

No, wait, if it was bad I don't want to know about it. Don't tell me. :)

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. Um, just don't read the comments above you.
