Monday morning linkblogging while I try to wake up

[livejournal.com profile] flemmings has an epiphany about the popularity of Bleach.
Because they're not characters in a manga, they're playable roles in a big RPG. Basic info is given about a person's character (as in psychology) and abilities, usually illustrated by a fight; the short Cliff's Notes on who they most often interact with, who will be their 'party'; and then with the vaguest outline of a plot you're left to play them whatever way you please. No wonder half my FL is mad about this series: mangaka rarely give you a set of characters to play with and let you just get on with it. Usually they're in there plotting at you like mad, which gets you Joshed before you can turn round. But Kubo Tite stays away most of the time.

Advent Calendars: Pata at Irresponsible Pictures is posting a bishoujo a day, and Scott at Polite Dissent a classic Christmas comic book cover a day until Christmas. (And who of you is going to step up and post a bishounen a day, huh?)

Via [livejournal.com profile] manga_cast: the yaoi/BL publisher Juné is holding a contest to win a bag o' BL.

The new version of the website for the RUSH yaoi anthology from DramaQueen is open, with a blog featuring some of the creators from the anthology.

And in non-manga links:

How to Calculate Pi by Throwing Frozen Hot Dogs.

Now THIS is a cleaver. (A very quick look at the front page shows that this seems to be a Hong Kong food blog - I'll have to read it a bit more and see if it's worth adding to by Bloglines blogroll.)

What families around the world eat in a week.

I am going right now to post a bishonen! But I may not have ADD-overpowering-willpower to keep with it. More responsible people, you do it too!

We should create a community - bishounen-a-day. And keep posting access to mods and those we approve of. XD

(not that bad an idea, actually - a way to pimp manga and anime. The problem would be gathering a rota of people to post a pic and a quick description of the bishounen and his ... milieu, for want of a better word. XD)

Well, there is [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily, but it's not quite the same...

I posted! If you create a comm, I will totally come over and ogle and let everyone else do the work. I mean, be a helpful and productive member!

You have been co-opted and invited. Possibly twice, accidentally. :D Will start to work on creating my capricious and arbitraty rules that none of you will bother to follow. :D

(mostly: anime/manga guys, since [livejournal.com profile] bishie_daily is limited to photos. there's no point in stepping on their toes. Plus I want community member posting access only, with almost nobody allowed to be a member - they can watch - just to stop random postage and spammage.)

I think my arm could be twisted into regular postings of that type...

You have been co-opted and invited. Possibly twice, since I forgot to mark teh invite as "maintainer" for you as well. :D

The 'food for a week' is terribly interesting - I just wish the pictures were high enough resolution that I could read the article!

I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet - I posted it before zipping off to the ref desk - but I remember the contrast in a picture of an African family and of a Western family of some country, which was ... quite striking.

That's not a cleaver, that's a zanpaku-to.
