[livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija finally comes clean about hoe she mortally offended Saiyuki voice actor Greg Ayres. The bit where she says what happened at the table afterwrds? I was there. I saw him. Not exaggerated one bit.

Anyway, other things we did:

Went to the Enormous Half-Price Bookstore, where Rachel bought so many books that I actually have to ship them to her.

Ate at Love and War in Texas, a kitschy Texas restaurant that features food from the five cuisine areas of Texas.

Watched episode 1 of QI, the British quiz show hosted by Stephen Fry.

Watched episodes 1 and 2 of the first season of Doctor Who, thus neatly addicting Rachel to it.

Ate gourmet pizza.

Did the rounds of the dealers' room, where Rachel shook every last box that contained a Bleach figuring, in the hopes of being able to magically divine which ones contained Renji and which ones contained Rukia.

Dear god. Talk about awk-ward. If I was in her spot, I'd squeak and shut up just because that's how I usually react when I encounter people who are quick to shut me down.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we've already established that she has no shame. XD

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I take exception to your visual implication that as I have no shame, I might do something like cop a feel off of Dokugakuji. I would do no such thing.

I'd cop one off of Gojyo instead. He's not my first choice of the Sanzo-ikkou, but Goku's just a kid, and Hakkai and Sanzo would kill me, whereas Gojyo would probably enjoy it and come back for more.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have NO IDEA where you got the idea I was implicating that. AT ALL.

Wow. I've met Greg many times and he was always cool. Then I heard about encounters with him from fans who mentioned scans and/or fandubs. And then I proclaimes on his LJ the EVIL of such things. I think he needs to calm down. There are so many things I wouldn't own now if not for scans and fansubs. I even read 328564328 chapters of FMA online and am buying the manga and the TV series. I downloaded Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid and when I found it it was licensed, I SQUEED and proclaimed to buy it the day it came out. Goodness. Greg is a cool guy, but different opinions are just that, opinions and he needs to stop freaking out and hating someone just because they've downloaded scans.

If I had been in her shoes, though, I would've just run right out of the room and never made eye contact with Gerg ever again O_O

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
And then he proclaims. Wtf, where did my grammar go?

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Where is his LJ? Someone is probably linking him to me even as I type.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
You hadn't read your LJ responses before you posted that, I can tell, because I am PSYCHIC.

Did she manage to get Renji and/or Rukia? :D I like that method. I may have to try it at the con at the end of the month! LOL.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Got both! OK, she got Rukia because the dealer had a box that was already open, so he sold it for $2 more than the unopened boxes*, but she managed to get Renji by weghing the box, I think. :D

* For those who are not fmailiar with this sort of thing, these are boxes that do not indicate what character is in it, so you have to buy them and hope you get the one you want. Which is why an open box where you can see the figurine is more expensive.

[identity profile] tgreywords.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
That's awesome! Well, it's good she got what she wanted!

What kind of loot did you get (if any?)? I don't think I saw it mentioned anywhere.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
About the only loot I get at cons is doujinshi and artbooks, and there was a serious lack of decent examples of both at this con, so I ended up not getting anything. Good for my pocketbook, at elast.

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I cherrypicked a Renji from one set just by comparing the weight of the figures. First try, haha! And it was so worth it.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
The one she got is really nice - he looks pissed off from one angle, and sad from another one. XD

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
He's such a dog!

If Rachel makes it to A-kon next year, I'll have to hook her up with one of the Renji keychains.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
She's seriously thinking about it. :D

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I call that the "woobie" Renji. I was in a puddle of squee when I first saw the doll and they how they based it from eps. 32 (its rare to see a doll of him with his hair down like that).

I was lucky last yr at Afest when I bought my Renji and Rukia dolls. I asked the guy that I was looking to buy the Renji one and if he knew which one might have had him in it. So he was shaking the boxes but he actually opened some of them for me. Since he went through that task of opening the boxes (since no one really does), I told him I'd also buy the Rukia one since he was so nice to do that.

Oh god, happy fun box game.

*had to play it this year with the Star Ocean/Radiata Stories set* I got everything I wanted within four boxes, but a friend of mine ended up having to buy about ten before she FINALLY got what she wanted?

[identity profile] cicer.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. There are too many pseudo-celebrities who think the world revolves around them. Ack. That's unfortunate that he behaved like such an ass. About half of the manga I buy, I buy it because I got interested in the scans. Scans are excellent for building a fanbase and exposing people to things they might not otherwise have seen. Ugh. I can respect a different opinion, sure, but to be so offended you refuse to exchange pleasantries with a fellow panelist? Way to be a jerk, there. 'Fess up, did [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija also run over his puppy or something? Sheesh.

mmm, Love & War.

Chicken fried steak is like a first class ticket to my affections, and L&W makes a quite tasty one. I just wish that the bacon chunklets in the gravy were smaller.

I had the brisket and the Shiner Bock beans. The brisket was a wee bit on the tougher side, but the sauce strangely grew on me as I ate it, and by the end was OMGDELICIOUS.
