Aaaaand one more...
Both the animation and the translation got a little better in this one. Note, however, that when I say the animation is "better," I don't actually mean "good."
As the next episode starts, I think Goku has had a little conversation with someone, I'd expect Hakkai, about his language.
Goku: Darned! Where is it?
OK, this next one isn't a bad translation and it makes sense in context, but CONTEXT IS FOR WIMPS!
Gojyo: Not even a rough feel of their location.
Sanzo's got Gojyo's tapeworm or a bad case of the royal we: This lecherous kid just wants to follow us.
And passed it on to Hazel: Just as our name indicates, we're just keepers.
In the Japanese, Hazel's using some sort of honorific that is translated as "Master Sanzo" in the subtitles, but still makes me giggle because it sounds like he's saying "Sanzo, hon" every time he talks to Sanzo.
HAH! Gojyo's had the same conversation about language with Hakkai or whoever that Goku did. As he tears his hair in frustration, falls backwars on the bed, and kicks his legs: Darned that Hazel! His jokes were too much. Darned him!
Sanzo, bitching at Gojyo: Nothing, you lecherous river kid.
Hakkai: Seems like it's better to hurry up and set off because a lot of lechers are coming this way.

If I remember right from the manga, Hazel calls Sanzo "Sanzo-han", which is just a different dialetic's version of '-san'. I love the image of calling him "hon", though.

Secretly, I think Hazel really is calling Sanzo 'hon'. It's Hazel, after all. XD

ANd I think I may be shaking my fist and crying "Darned you!" at random intervals now.

because there's really only one thing Gojyo could have been looking at in that scene*that he'd be less concerned about lechers.* Jeep. ... What?

cultural note
Kyoto, to be precise. Identified in the Japanese subconscious / common culture with all things refined and cultured in Japan because it was the residence of the Imperial Court until the late 1860's. Osaka = rambunctious vulgar. Kyoto = effeminate refined. Osakans are big with the money; Kyotoites wave a disdainful fan and look away. (Note that Osakans disagree with all of this.)
OTOH I've always thought Hazel speaks with a Kyoto accent because he comes from (cough cough) the *West* ie Europe, the American West, you name it.
Re: cultural note
And Osaka/Kansai-ben rocks my world. Then again, I'm biased, since I lived in Nara when I was in Japan. That's where all the cool kids are. xD
And telophase, I read this entry and realized how much I missed reading your journal. It makes me want to smack myself for neglecting LJ the way I have the past few months.
Re: cultural note
And thanks! XD
