A challenge...

...for you creative-types (fic, art, icons, interpretive dance, whatever), because I am bored interested.

Long and long ago, I found a list of 100 topics on which to draw pictures over on DeviantArt, which had been translated from Japanese. I drew 5 or 6 pictures according to the list and then forgot about it. They were good prompts, but the problem is that they pretty much all were of the emo evocative type and while that's fine sometimes, sometimes you just don't want to deal with that sort of thing. So I've made my own list. And it's much shorter, only 10. If there's an actual response to this, I may add more later.

If you choose to try the challenge, your job is to produce, at some point because there is no deadline unless you really really want one, ten (or as many as you feel like doing) works of whatever ilk - fanfic, original fic, art, icons, interpretive dance, poetry, Spam sculpture, whatever - each of which has some sort of relevance to one of the topics. Creativity in interpretation is encouraged. Feel free to mix and match: you don't need to stick to one fandom, medium, or whatever unless you want to.

And of course I can't actually take this seriously, so I made my list out of the Engrish and the comments from the Saiyuki Reload Gunlock Engrish reports.

1. Special sales day
2. I can't handle this alone
3. Eight hundred mice
4. Be more elegant
5. In the corner
6. I'm so tired
7. The royal we
8. Delicious!
9. Blur
10. Mistaken

ETA: It was pointed out to me that I left off #3. NO I DIDN'T! SEE! IT'S RIGHT THERE! Er, you're not buying that, are you?

Drop a message here if you think you might try. :D

ETA: And if you didn't read it then, you really really need to read [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks' report of the HK DVD set of Saiyuki. If you read it then, you really really need to read it again. Trust me.

Hey, another themed list! There have been so many of these lately (http://community.livejournal.com/150_comms/profile). I like yours it's fun and not too long.

(reposted because I SUCK at HTML)

:D Yeah, they're quite trendy. Most of the lists I see, which are in the art or icon-making communities, tend to go for the boring evocative. The 100-item art list I originally saw 2 or 3 years ago had, in part:

Section 4: Fantasy
061: The far end of the world
062: Wind corridor
063: Town of ruins
064: Floating island
065: Prayer
066: The lost forest (more like the forest you get lost in lol)
067: Aerial garden
068: One winged
069: A moment of dream
070: Miniature world (or a world in a miniature garden)
071: Destiny of the wind
072: Home (As in the place you were born/grew up)
073: Female shaman
074: Cage of ice
075: Forest of pure white
076: Moonlight
077: At the end of a dream
078: Fragile past
079: Illusion
080: Eternity

Which are nice, but I like themes with an edge, and I like funny icons, and you almost never get funny icons with the topic icon challenges. You end up with ten jillion pictures of L or Light with grunge brushes, color overlays, and "The distance between us" or some such Deep Meaningful TM phrase slapped on it. And once you've seen three or four, you've seen them all.

I figure, with my list you can make 'em Meaningful or Stupid, whichever you choose. and hey, an excuse to find the DVDs and continue watching!

I like funny-cute themes in principle, but they're SO hard to write for. And I like obscure literary themes I don't understand, because they are challenging, and "dark" themes like [livejournal.com profile] psych_30's.

Though my favorite is still [livejournal.com profile] trimgular's nonserious Zuko list, because it contains the prompt "Speech Impediment."

Most of the lists I see, which are in the art or icon-making communities, tend to go for the boring evocative.

Well, that's where the imagination part comes in. :D "Eternity" becomes something like "an endless wait in line", "at the end of a dream" becomes "waking up to find yourself chewing on someone's leg 'cause you thought it was beef", "town of ruins" becomes "someone's smashed model town, likely through dumbassery on the part of [insert character(s) here]", etc.

Though, of course, now I've got to admit that in the one _100 comm I've ever been in, I don't think I did anything interesting before I ended up drifting away from the fandom it was for. ;; Though I totally meant to turn the "touching" theme into "ass-grabbing", and it's the thought that counts, right? >_>;;

... you have a Radiata Stories icon! *sparkles*

Also, #7 above has to be some sort of Katamari Damacy art or somesuch. I demand it.

[identity profile] codfishbunny.livejournal.com 2006-06-15 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! :D Yours is far more awesome, though. ♥ I love that sign.

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2006-06-14 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 = instant pr0n.

This and the sort of things you'll find over at seventhsanctum.com are awesome when you're bored having a mean art block.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-06-14 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
:D GO FOR IT! XD

Yeah. I got several good pics out of the big 100-list, although a lot of them were too Deep and MeaningfulTM for me to handle, and I like reading lists like that.

[identity profile] homasse.livejournal.com 2006-06-14 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, iiiiinteresting. :D

...and rabbi Sanzo. I had heard about that before, actually, but it never stops being funny.

The killer about the HK fansubs is that they're good...until they stopped having fansubbers to rip off and had to start doing it themselves. Then it became comedic gold.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-06-15 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. :) I need to find the DVDs that [livejournal.com profile] kintail sent me and watch more. They got put away somewhere safe when I rearranged the apartment ... yeah, you know how that sort of thing goes.

Hee. I had that on the list for a while, along with OMGWTFBBQ? and seriously considered "Backed potato" for a while. :)

I shall attempt something, as the inner thought, manifested self forth as being in elegant. (trying to use bad babelfish engrish like "She is playing the flute?") even though I never watched Saiyuki (I did download the manga a loooooooong time ago), I'll make something with my current fandoms and random shiz. Thanks for brightening my mood :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-06-15 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
You look like you're ready for a job as an HK subtitler! XD

I shall attempt something, since my ideas, seem to be coming out that way.

:D Atleast they wouldn't translate names weird XDD

I did something for "The Royal We" but I forgot my sketch book at home ;-; so I'll scan it later.

Hmmm...Im gonna atempt to atempt this. I need to make more cracky Saiyuki icons anyways. And Rabbi Sanzo...my urge to maul screencaps is rising. ^_^

I should be shot for this.

Must ... try ... the Art Muse has been rather dry and empty and funk-i-fied lately, so something like this might just pull me outta my slump!

BTW, you can find me on dA at wilder.deviantart.com

I highly recommend the random generators over at www.seventhsanctum.com for thiat sort of thing, too. :D

I am sure Dokugakuji was translated as Corner Mountain Man at one point, although I may have been hallucinating by then.
