Food porn, hair, Hakkai
Got a new haircut today, went to a new Italian restaurant wiht my Italian class, and took a (bad) photo of the Hakkai I finished Wednesday night, just so you guys can see it. So even if you don't want to see my hair or read the food porn, stick with is because there will be HALF-NAKED HAKKAI!
Haircut. I took a couple of pics I'd downloaded from the net to show my stylist what I wanted, and I seem to be into round right now. So he actually gave me almost the exact cut in the photo - of coruse, the model was a Japanese woman with lovely thick hair that's also full of styling product with the photo taken immediately after styling, while I have ratsy thin hair that wasn't very product-full and the photo is taken in the mirror of the bathroom about eight hours after it was cut.
And with a goofy expression, of course, but it's very hard to take a picture of me that doesn't have a goofy expression.

OK, that being over: food porn!
A tiny new restaurant has opened on Magnolia in Fort Worth, called Nonna Tata. The cook is Italian. It's open from 11 AM-7 PM on M-TH and from 11AM-8PM on Friday. If you want to be seated immediately, you need to get there before noon at lunch and before 6:30 at dinner. WHen I say tiny, I mean tiny You seat 20-24 people, tops.
celticdragonfly and
selenite: the seating inside is not very child-friendly because you have to sit on tall stools at long tables - they can seat 16-18 people inside, at two long tables, but they have two tables outside with normal-size chairs that can seat up to 4 each, and they're going to be adding 2 more outside. You're on the sidewalk out there. They don't serve alcohol, either, but they're happy to serve your own wine if you bring it. Cash or check only, no credit cards.
The maenu changes every week, as do the prices. They recommend coming on Mondays, because not only is it slow, but they spend teh weekend doing most of the prep work so the food is fresher on Mondays.
We made a special arrangement to bring a large group - we had 18 total and crammed around the two inside tables. :D They served a meal family-style to us, brigning the food out in heaping platters and putting them in the middle of the tables.
To start: bruschetta con crostini - thinly sliced toasted bread, served with tomatos/olive oil/garlic topping. Mmm.
Then, the antipasti course. I ahve no idea what the names of these things are but there were four: an eggplant slice with mozzarella and something else on it which was excellent even though I don't even like eggplant, two different types of breadlike things, one with cheese and one without, and what I think was a spinach frittata.
Then, the pasta course. Two different types, a spaghetti and a penne. Looking at the menu I ahve, I think they were penne all'arrabbiata and spaghetti aglio, olio e prezzemole, but I won't list the ingredients here because a little farther down I'm linking a photo of this week's menu. :)
Then, the entree and salad: the insalata della Nonna from the menu, which appears to be their specialty salad and had a sort-of-but-not-quite spicy dressing to it, the petti di pollo alla Milanese from the menu - also very good, but served with uninspired vegetables (have I ever said how much I loathe the broccoli/cauliflower/carrot thing?) - and soemthing that's not on this menu - thin chicken breast rolled up around something and cooked, then sliced so it looks like spirals. Mmmm.
And then the dessert: I don't know what it's called so I dont' know if it's on the menu, but I can tell you how it's made. It starts with a shell made of meringue, the strawberry preserves are ladled in, then it's got a scoop of gelati, then topped with whipped cream, and then a chocolate sauce is poured over all of it.
There was much left over, even though there were eighteen of us - two more than we told them would be coming. So they put all the leftovers into small to-go boxes and gave them to us - I now have a light lunch awaiting me tomorrow that has two types of pasta, a chicken spiral thing, and a piece of breaded chicken. Mmm. No dessert left over, of course. :D
ANyway, after reading through all that, you are now rewarded with a not-so-good photo of this week's lunch menu.
And finally -- HALF-NAKED HAKKAI!

I'll scan it in better later.
