My toning took about an hour to an hour and a half per page. Mind you - I'm counting cleaning up my inks in with that hour; the actual toning would probably be half that. I did my inking with ComicStudio's vector tool, which meant that it didn't erase cleanly, so I had a lot of stray pixel to go in and clean up, and then there were all the places where I went "OH my GOD does that head SUCK" and re-drew it. And I can tell I've improved in my drawing over the course of the book, because I had less redrawing in the last third than I did in the first 2/3.
My toning also ended up beign more complicated than I wanted it to, and it took me until today to figure out why - it's that evn though I'd been thinking of this as a solidly shoujo story, the story is the only thing shoujo aobut it - my art and my layout is pure shounen, which calls for a differnet toning style. And secondarily, I'm still coloring with the tones instead of accenting with them - and that's because my inks are not strong enough to stand on their own as dynamic pieces of artwork, so I have to have a lot of tones to make the page work.
I'm starting to think about how to change that, because it jsut takes too dman long. Maybe I should just experiment and copy a couple of pages of a shoujo book for practice - I know that if I copy a few pieces of an artist's work, parts of their style are incorporated into mine, and it might work for page layout. I'd really like to do something like Kazuya Minekura, whose bare layouts are shounen, but whose linework and design are shoujo-influenced. Gosh, stare at saiyuki pages for a while? Twist my arm!
Yes, I did. :) I'll have to remind Rachel of it - she's the one with the master address list. (and there's, like, three people I haven't sent to her yet, but it's not like she's in any position to update it now. :D)
I wasn't expecting to finish them until tomorrow, but I had a migraine and went home from work today. Once the drugs kicked in, I did the last seven pages. So it all worked out.
I have no idea. Email me (telophase14 at gmail dot com) the Paypal address you'd have used for it and I'll look it up. If you didn't use Paypal but sent a check isntead, email me the name & address sent with the check and I'll look *that* up. :D But it'll be tomorrow - I'm crashing now since I'm tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired.
