Weather

In case any of you were thinking I was exaggerating the dust storm, here's a photo of the Dallas skyline I ganked from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram website:

I live in Fort Worth, about 20-30 miles to the west, but it looked just like that.

*wheeze*

Tonight sucks, what with the snot and the headache and the sneezing and all.

Damn dust.

Yup. I can feel the dust in my throat.

Wow, didn't know it got that bad today. Explains why I feel like a cat hacking up furballs!

Yes. I really wasn't sure if it was dust or smoke at first, but ... man. I can tell it's dust now - it's everywhere.

Yeah - I've been scratching my head all night and it's...GROSS. I'm about ready to head into the shower - I don't wanna get this all over my sheets!

I spent about 40 mins outside with the dogs today. I feel scuzzy.

Can I post that image in my LJ, or should I restrict myself to linking to your post?

Hacking away here too.

Knock yourself out, since I stole it from the Star-Telegram. XD

That just makes me want to take a shower.

:D You expect this farther west, but not here. Ah well.

We had the Dust in San Antonio, too!

Hee! It seems not to have made it over to College Station, according to my mom when I called her last night, but I guess West Texas decided to go east for a visit.

For once I can go "Ha! At least we Brits have normal weather!", but now I've probably summoned a freak snowstorm upon us all.

The concept that the UK gets tornadoes weirds me out, because they're firmly fixed in my head as a Great Plains phenomenon.

And didn't you guys have some sort of freak storm a few years back? *has vague memories*

[identity profile] wyrdness.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I must admit that I often associate tornadoes with America and the Tornado Alley regions. I think it's because for some reason the media never seems to really report on tornadoes over here, usually relegating them to side mentions in between more "important" news articles.

We're always having freak storms :D I sort of remember one from when I was a kid in the late 80's where the BBC weathermen said a gale was on the way but many people believed afterwards it was more like a mild hurricane. I think most of the south of the country was effected in some way, I know the next day all our garden fences had been knocked flat and my dad was a bit annoyed about it. :)

I think that may be the freak storm I was thinking of - I've read accounts here and there, and there was a book about a National Heritage house I read that lost a lot of trees in it, IIRC.

My biggest acquaintance with freak UK weather was the three weeks I spent in Shropshire working with teh Shropshire Archives for an internship. Mom came along, because she's an Anglophile, and we spent the week afterwards traveling. We were all excited that we were going to get out of Texas heat during the month of ... August 2003. *twitch* *twitch* *twitch*
