I stopped reading after the first sentence since I almost physically felt the words invading my brain and turning me to the Dark Side (other people may or may not call it science *shudders*) T'is Evil! Burn it! Burn all the gibbering knowledge! *gets out the flaming torches*

I don't think it's science, I think it's "science," and it feels more like a college student trying to sound more intelligent by using big words than anything truly meaningful. The main page of the site seems to be studying people's political leanings and various thinking styles, but they're not very flexible when it comes to distinctions between political stances.

Ahh, "science" *nods knowingly* I do know that it's painful to read, literally, trying to follow it has in fact given me a headache! I think you are right about it feeling like a college student trying to sound intelligent, because anyone who does know what they're on about hardly ever has to resort to anything that sounds that complicated/ complex to get their point across.

Unless you're Marvin Harris and writing The History of Antrhopological Theory, which is the MOST BADLY WRITTEN anthropology text I've ever run across. Read the paragraph of teh test result in the post, imagine seedign it with name-dropping of various anthropologists and psychologists, then imagine that for five hundred pages. I am so not exagerrating.

AND it cost us $60 to boot. We were Not Happy with the professor for requiring it.

The worst thing is that Harris has written a nubmer of books for laymen explaining anthropological stuff. I've read them. I KNOW that the man can write in a lucid, intelligible manner! Arg!

It's just technical language, not terrible language... I do think they're kind of obnoxious in not explaining any of it for laymen, though, given the context. It may be made up ("cognitive style" is sort of dubious), but I wouldn't dismiss it purely on the grounds of big words. There was a recent article that showed that people actually evaluate the intelligence of people who use big words as *lower* than those who use small words. I worry about these things... probably too much...

I took just enough classes as a psych major to understand most of my answer, although it seems useless to tell people where they have heightened or depressed activity without telling them what they mean. Also, those questions were whack, and a little invasive. *g*
