And, COMPLETELY UNEXPECTEDLY...

...kittyspam!

I bought a second fake-sheepskin cat bed so I wouldn't have to remember to drag the one that's on my bed at night into the living room in order to keep some of the cat fur from building up on the couch quite so quickly.

And, of course, she hated it and refused to touch her dainty little paw to it, choosing instead to sit on the hand towel that had been standing in for a cat bed. Washing it several times helped not at all. But I persisted, and after my Patented Sooper Speshul Ninja Technique of Cat Bed no Jutsu...

"[livejournal.com profile] telophase! How did you do that?!" I hear you say. Easy!

A liberal application of catnip. See how the fur on her neck is all matted and wet? That's drool. Which she's rubbed all over the bed and herself. And presumably made it smell familiar, because she prefers the bed to the towel, now.

She always gets this squinty-eye thing going after a good session with the 'nip.

This is one of those times where she looks at you with this weird expression that's almost human.

"Hey! You talkin' to me?"

Such a camwhore.

And the last one ... FOR NOW! That moment when the cat's eyes go reeeeeeally big, right before they spring. I had my hand under the kitty bed, scritching at the fabric on its bottom side, making a sort of zzzip zzzip noise, to get her attention. It certainly did.

Yep: pupils the size of nickels.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

I have a deep averse reaction to a cat fixing *me* with eyes like that, because when I was a kid, on occasion my cat Dakota would do that, eyes fixated on me, then leap on me and claw me, and she was strong and could do damage. She was a friendly cat otherwise, though. I learned that if I threw the nearest pillow or towel or something at her, I could snap her out of those stages.

leap on me and claw me

a friendly cat o_O

sure =)

p.s. these kitty-pics are the highlight of these early mornings lol

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, she got some sort of automatic prey-reaction going which took over in those cases. She'd sit on my lap and purr, and crawl under the covers with me in the evening and in the morning and purr. :)

Unlike the other cat, who hated everyone and everything and would claw you with no warning. :D

[identity profile] tygerr.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I was half expecting the "deep averse reaction" story to involve Africa. And a kitty twice the size of Schwarzenegger.

Rather glad it doesn't, though....

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The lioness didn't stare at me like that; she was just curious. XD

I've been sort of expecting that story to come up in the letters, but maybe Mom didn't want to worry the grandparents unduly?

I love kittyspam X3

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
:D

[identity profile] rayechu.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
You are lucky your cat likes the catnip. I have 7 and none of them will touch the stuff.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
This is the first cat I've owned that had any reaction to it. The two I grew up with and Mom's current cat had zero reaction.

When my pookie kitten was a kitten catnip used to make her extra super special hyper happy, I'm scared of trying it again now that she's older and has bigger claws.

[identity profile] pzb.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I need to get more kitty spam uploaded. There's always room for Kittyspam. XD

See, where you kitty's eyes dilate, mine turns orangish-red (serious) and I know...it's not playtime anymore. It's let's-lunge-for-the-jugular time.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Kittyspam lovers unite! XD

Heh. This cat hasn't attacked me for real, ever - she occasionally gets overcome and her prey-response kicks in, but she usually looks embarassed about it when she realizes.

Her eyes range from green to gold, depending on how wide her pupils are and where the light's coming from. :)

There's a cat on the cmapus I work at that's mostly black, and fluffy, and ahs beautiful luminescent golden eyes. It's feral, and tends to lurk in the bushes, and since it's black often you can't see the cat at all, just these enormous golden eyes staring at you. XD

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Your cat is such a stoner, she could have gone to my alma mate, UC Santa Cruz.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
The squinty-eye thing just makes me giggle. And makes me keep my resolution to not give her catnip too often - they claim it's not addictive and won't hurt that cat, but when she's pretty obviously stoned like that...

[identity profile] heyoka.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hah! The squinty-eye thing looks like me after a few drinks. Actually, just one, I'm rather a lightweight. n.n;;

Also, the "almost human expression" one begs to be made into a "...what?" or "whaaaat?" icon. XD

And I have never seen a cat's pupils get that big ever. I am slightly freaked out. o.o;;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Her eyes usually don't go quite that big - I managed to catch her in the right mood with the right attention-getting sound. And she did leap up onto the sofa a few seconds later, to try to attack the kitty bed. XD

[identity profile] hatchet-hands.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
That kitty is one huuuge biatch!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
She's overdue for the vet, so I'm not sure how much she weighs now. I think she's on the larger side of average, certainly much bigger then when I got her. :)

Yay, kittyspam! Great way to start the day.

XDD Cute!

I must say that I was just telling myself to go to bed, that I had to close LJ for the night, but then I say the wonderful words "kitty spam" and couldn't resist just one more ... Totally worth losing a little sleep. Your kitty's super hero/villain name could be "Cat with the One Goofy Eye" or CwtOGE for short.
