This would have been such a good pic if the flash had gone off. But nooooooooo, Mr. "There's PLENTY of light streaming in from the blinds!" Autoflash Camera! You just had to ruin it for everyone!





Man, those are some claws. And rest assured, I do feel them on a regular basis (mostly when she's given me plenty of warning that she wants to be left alone, and I ignore her. XD Strangely, I don't actually have any scratches at the moment.)





This is the one I like best out of this bunch. Slightly out of focus (more apparent in the high-res version), but nice anyway.

So cute X3 I love kitties so, so much. My grandma's old cat looked similar to yours, but I have a feeling hers was a lot smaller.

I think mine's on the large size of average, but the only cat around ehre to compare with is this old, grizzled veteran who's HUGE with a head the size of a softball and makes my cat look dainty in comparison. XD

Oooh! *fawns over adorable kitty* My new kitten puts at least 7 noticeable (aka bleeding) scratches on me a day. But he is shooooo cute!

Cute kitty! XD Yeah, I was pretty impressed that after I got my cat, it just seemed right to have several healing wounds on my hands. XD

The worst scratch she ever gave me was completley accidental - I was dangling a string for her to catch, and swung it past me, and she took a shortcut right over the top of my foot, which left a pretty painful bleeding gash where her hind claws dug in for traction. :)

Oh! I'd never thought about the CuisinArt before! *nods head in realization* I hate to say it, but I think I might get him de-clawed. I've always kind of been against it, but this cat will seriously never be an outdoor kitty and someone I was talking to said that the cat heals so fast from it, that it really isn't a big deal, but still...I feel like it might be like animal cruelty to have it done. I can't decide....

I'm basically against it because the cat *can* get out, and will need the claws to defend himself and climb trees.

It's not a matter of just taking the claws off - they remove the entire first joint of the toes.

Firstly I want to say that I have several cats, all of which are declawed. It was not my decision, it was simply the terms that my parents had for adopting the stray kitten we found in the backyard. He must be declawed and must be nuetered. That said, I have never had a problem with any of the my cats after surgery, all came back healthy and happy. I actually had more problem with the cats when they do have claws getting stuck in the carpet, the curtain, etc. Unfortunatly if your cat does get out claws or not your chance of getting him back is very very low. However one of my female cats did get out declawed, and survived for a week before we found her in the backyard.
So I guess what I am saying is, if you have been dealing with claws without any real problem save yourself $200.00 and the risk of operation. However if it comes between keeping your cat/ adopting another off the streets, don't be afraid to do it.

See and that's the thing--the claws are a real problem. He uses them on me when I am sleeping in order to get my attention because he's in one of his uber-hyper-play modes. I know that he will most likely grow out of it, but he is only 12 weeks old, which leaves a LONG time for me to wait. There are varying circumstances (too many and complicated to list here) that keep me from not having him in my room at night (the yowling that would ensue is just one of the many reasons). I do know how the operation is done and I know it is very harsh, but when he wakes me up five times in the night with his claws to my face, arms, hands or feet (whichever moved in my sleep), I am not a happy camper. (Also this weekend, he attacked me after I had just gotten out of the shower and opened the bathroom door, leaving three, three-inch long bloody rips in my upper thigh.) I really almost lost my temper the other night and I don't want to constantly fight the battle against a gaining sleep deficit.

I have a vet appointment for him tomorrow to get some booster shots, at that appointment, I'm going to ask the vet to clip his claws for me and give me a refresher course on how to do it. If clipping his claws periodically works to reduce the number of healing wounds I have, then I will forestay the de-clawing. I'm also going to ask her advice for how to stop him from trying to scratch in the first place. *crosses fingers*

Sometimes when she's getting a bit wild and I'm petting her belly and the Prey Reflex cuts in, so she all of a sudden grabs my hand and starts trying to disembowel it with her hind claws and gnaws on it with her teeth ... sometimes she hesitates, gets this "Ohhhhhhh shit!" look on her face, and starts licking my hand.

She's learning. XD (and I'm learning, too, to not poke her too much when she's really riled up. XD)
