Bought Manga: Masters of the Art at lunch today and have read the first two chapters. Am quite enjoying it so far.

The legal ramifications of taking candy from a bowl while trick-or-treating.
So if an angst-ridden teenager rings my door and claims to be an angst-ridden teenager, have they claimed a costume, and is that claim valid?

Well, see, when they say "Trick or Treat" they are giving you the option: give them treats, or play a trick on them. So, just have some sort of trick ready for those not in costume. They did ask for it, after all.

:P

Heh. Oh, BTW, as an experiment, we've just set up a Cepheid wiki at www.cepheid.org/wiki (er, due to long and random discussions on the unofficial Cepheid 'serv) for random Cepheid history and info, if you feel like poking around there. And if you happen to know things, like, say. D-names and stories behind them, or want to add soemthign about Nova, feel free to: the editors are currently open and unrestricted. XD

Interesting!

I won't invade yet, but once Nova gets mentioned in an article, I'll pop up and put in something nice and amusing for it's page. :)

You rang? (http://www.cepheid.org/wiki/index.php/Cepheid_Variable)

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the heads up! I put a little something in there, with a nice little dig in the last paragraph. :p

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*snerk* We'll see how long it takes for someone to notice it. XD

I've been doing websearches like mad for the past hour and filling out as much info as I could for past Aggiecons.

*snerk (http://www.cepheid.org/wiki/index.php?title=Site_News&rcid=203)*

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah, I noticed that, too.

I'm such a pain.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Go back to that page and hover the mouse over the "MSC governing body" link. XD

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I may have said this before, but I think I love you.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
XD

Mind you, it was Jeff behind the creation of that page, but I'll take the credit, if you want. :D

So, I see you adding your own ideas to how to chart the W. As a non-Cepheid, I've got nothing to hide (not from lack of trying, mind you), but are you sure you want to encourage it's creation like that? ;)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I AM NOT ADVOCATING IT AT ALL!!

NO!

NOT AT ALL!!

in reality, if we charted it out online, it would probably cause MASSIVE problems with various people on it as they discovered it :D

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I know. It's a TERRIBLE idea. Which is why I couldn't help but poke it with a stick. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
XD I'm about to suggest we leave it alone for a while and if, over the natural course of things, it shows up, we edit it to something approaching non-flammable and have Jeff lock it. That seems like the most prudent course of events to me.

But thinking of it up there is still highly amusing. :D

[identity profile] tygerr.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
OOOOH!! I *like* it!

Of course, that's an interpretation of the contract language which ignores established precedent. To wit, that the phrase "trick or treat" is a standard customary/traditional "legalese" term indicating the establishment of a "protection racket" style transaction.

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think an arguement could be made that the performing of a trick by the party being asked the question is merely a form of answering the question, in the long-standing "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" tradition. It is hardly the fault of the questionee if the questioner fails to reciprocate.
