My flist also pointed me at < http://electricbiscuitonline.blogspot.com/2005/10/dawn-of-knitted-dead.html > today, so there must be knitting in the air, though possibly it's just another sign of autumn.
Knitting and the fiber arts are the in thing right now - everybody who's anybody seems to be doing them. I may have succombed to the lure of BPAL but by God I WILL NOT KNIT!!!!
it helps that while I'm curious about the act of knitting, I have absolutely no interest in any knitted product I've yet seen, and I'm not willing to invest my time in an activity that produces stuff I'll never use, wear, or give away.
I feel sort of sorry for my friends here in San Antonio who are into knitting. They can wear the items they knit for, what, three whole days out of the year?
One of them did knit a really cool scarf, though. It's made with black and neon green yarn, somehow knitted together in such a way that from one angle, it's a simple black-and-green stripe pattern, but from another angle, the head of an alien shows up in the pattern. Here's an example (http://www.xtreme-knitting.com/photos-alienscarf.htm).
