Texas residents!

Houston Public Library cards are free to Texas residents--ALL Texas residents, not just Houstonians. You can apply online using a non-expired form of ID. If you want to check out physical materials, you have to pick up the card physically, but if you want to check out electronic materials, you can get your card number online.

The electronic card gets you access to:
  • ComicsPlus, online comics from a number of publishers including manga and indie.

  • Overdrive, with ebooks, comics and audiobooks for download, and streaming movies

  • Axis360, with comics, ebooks and audiobooks

  • RBDigital, with audiobooks and magazines

  • Ebscohost, with ebooks (can't tell you what sort as I'm on a VPN right now that's showing me what my employer has access to instead of the Houston library)

  • PressReader, with magazines and newspapers

  • Hoopla, with comics, music and streaming video and music

  • Freegal, with music

This has been your Texas librarian PSA for the day.
