As someone who became disabled in her 30s, I struggle with this a lot. It doesn't help that everyone new I meet immediately asks me what I do, as in what I do as a job position, and get this look when I say I'm disabled. My feeling that I give fic to the people of the world helps me with it a bit, making me feel like I'm contributing something, leaving something, positive and creative behind me as I live. But it can be hard.
