Am I a grownup yet?
I have just thrown money at a lawyer to assist me in setting up an official LLC for my cover art stuff, since it's now grown beyond just doing covers for friends. Once I get the official paperwork for that, the next step is getting a business checking account and moving the money I've got out of the checking account it's currently in into that.
Also, during the call I had yesterday with her, I found that if I have any business equipment (I suppose my computer would count?), I need to either declare it in the initial governing documents or set up an arrangement where I essentially lease it from myself. I will be, of course, clarifying exactly how that's going to work when we get to that point.
Batman.

Congratulations! Wishing you all the best in your new endeavor!
Just for kicks I drew you a card from the Urban Tarot, and it gave you the 10 of Cups: "The Ten represents that happiness ["that fabled Happy Ever After"] stretching from this moment forward far into the future."

I'm not in your tax area, but around here, you either need to use equipment (including a room) only for the purpose of your business (a dedicated computer), or else write it off in the appropriate share (and how to calculate that is for accountants, so that's a question to ask of yours.)

Do you do cover art for any non-fiction books? I have a small idea that I haven't seen anywhere, so I wonder if I could monetize it somehow, and a self-published book is maybe one possibility....

And I'd totally be up for that. :)

I'm getting the "wow, this sounds like work" shivers.
Go, you!
