Hey, a painting

Did a painting, partially to have more samples of my artwork for my book covers website, and partially because I had a free portrait class from Paintable.cc that's going under a paywall on the 24th that I needed to take a look at. (If I get more time to do art, I may subscribe to Paintable for a few months--the free tutorials I've watched have all been useful, but I'm just not spending enough time on art at the moment to justify the cost.)

I grabbed a stock photo from Pixabay to do it from as I was more interested in practicing the lights and shadows and trying to do realistic skin tones than I was in creating a character.

Pixabay's good for stuff like this, but you can't use photos with people in them on the site for much commercial stuff, even though the license allows for it, because they don't say anything about having a model release on file and it's just better not to risk it.

I love the vibrant colors and the brushstrokes! The flowers and unusual-ish lipstick really work together.

Augh, I should finish watching the Paintable tutorial tomorrow...I don't have time to do it right now because I am slammed with writing stuff, but I've been taking notes on the assignments, etc. so I can do it at some later point. Worst case at some point I pony up and subscribe someday when I have free time.

I still have the final 3 lessons to go through. XD After doing #4 and getting most of the way to the above, I decided to quit while I was ahead and added details according to what I remembered from that photorealism DVD tutorial that I think I recommended you get some time back. I think I shall finish them today.

I seriously need to take a couple years off and just work on leveling up my art. XD
