I am really curious about how the Brit on your flist answered some of these questions, because I would have no idea! Especially the bug that curls into a ball, words to address a group of people and the rain falling while the sun is shining.

It's under f-lock so I can't direct you there, but here's the answers to your questions:

Bug: "Don't know."

Group of people: "Hi" (I think they missed the question - it's not phrased too well)

Rain in sunshine: "Confusing." :) And went to say they don't think there's a name for that over there.

In Hawai'i people often called the light-passing-showers-on-sunny-days "liquid sunshine" if they needed a specific name in English -- and they were much more frequent everyday things than heavier/longer-lasting rainshowers. I still haven't really gotten adjusted to the idea of rainy days being dull and cloudy and grey...

(Knowing the number of Hawaiian names for specific types/locales of rain, there is probably an even more poetic Hawaiian name for it, but it's not one of those phrases that got brought into everyday use in the local English dialect so I'd need to do some digging through dictionaries to try to find it.)
