BTW, a Finnish animation studio is creating a new series of The Moomins, and is running an Indiegogo campaign to fund the visual development. They're working with Tove Jansson's niece.
I am surprised that this is going to Indiegogo for funding, because this is a valuable property. The Japanese series were very popular and that merchandising is ongoing and I'm puzzled as to why they'd crowdfund. Is this just a way of creating buzz while getting some quick operating cash?
And, looking over the premiums---if you want to see the Moomins' Finland, you go in the summertime!
I expect the buzz/cash thing is the reason. They're only asking for $200K, which is a pittance compared to how much a 13-episode animated series costs. It might be like MST3K's Kickstarter, which did fund the whole thing, but was primarily a vehicle to show that there was an audience for more MST3K.
