Toby has been playing Fallout 4 for a while now, and is getting a bit cranky that his sneak-around-and-shoot='em-up game has turned into SimCity.

Does he get the same bug I do, where you check the Workshops menu under Data in your Pip-Boy and get told "oh, hey, $settlement has ZERO defense/food/water!", only to find when you get there that the damn place is just fine and everything is up to snuff?

Not yet, thankfully. We're on the PS4, if it matters.

I'd just prefer for the game to have an "I just want to snipe bad guys" option where the settlers don't need to be baby-sat. Deal with some raiders so a town can thrive? Sure! Build a recruitment radio tower? No problem! Spend almost an hour putting finicky walls around Sanctuary because the citizens can't be arsed? Makes me wish I was playing an evil character who was happy to see them get razed by Mad Max rejects.

It would be 10X less of a hassle if the game had a bird's-eye-view option for construction.

This is good to know about. I love Morrowind most of the Bethesda games I've played, but herbalism and alchemy have nothing on what I've heard about Fallout 4's crafting. (Sorry it's enforced!)

D has been enjoying the SimCity aspect, so much so that I am tempted to try it myself. I think he is afraid of the monster I might become if I do, though. (I can get a little obsessive...)

He knows he doesn't have to do that stuff, right? I'm working on one settlement because I enjoy that one, but until I found it I was basically ignoring it -- haven't been back to Sanctuary Hills in hours and hours and hours, even -- and there doesn't seem to be any penalty. Play the game you want, etc.
