Not a good week for anyone, it seems...

This has not been a good week for anyone I know, it seems. There have been illnesses and deaths of friends, family and pets, evacuations with various and sundry ordeals thereof, bureaucracy, jobs lost or not hired for, frustration, anger, righteous indignation, sadness, fright, and fear.

So, because I've pretty much spent the entire week in front of the computer worried, appalled, or teary-eyed on the behalf of about everyone I know, feel free to post here with something that makes you happy, or makes you smile, or something you're interested in, intrigued by, looking forward to, or that just tends to fall more on the positive side of life.

A few good things form me, to kick it off with: I'm looking forward to an upcoming small get-together with a few friends where we're basically doing a pub-crawl and staggering from place to place until the cops start frowning at us, I'm anticipating my trip to California next month, and I can make my cat drool like a Laborador retriever, which I find immensely amusing because I am easily entertained.

What's up with you?

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's a bit twisted, but I'm about to go outside and fly a kite in the path of a hurricane. This makes me smile.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Makes me smile, too, just 'cause I can enjoy it vicariously. :D I'm not much of an adrenalin junkie, so I just get sick and terrified with possible danger, but I like reading about it, if that makes sense. XD

  • To Ride a Rathorn will be coming out in a year.
  • [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's book will be out soon (sometimes it seems a little odd to me that I anticipate being amused by her pain).
  • My brother will visit in about a week.
  • I have a shiny new computer!
  • I have LJ friends who give me useful dating advice.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee!

I'm anticipating [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's book as well, which Amazon shall deliver to me as soon as they can, I hope.

This has not been a good week for anyone I know, it seems.

I've noticed this weird phenomenon too, although I know I've added to the general woe. And so:

I am going to spend a week in a cottage on the beach in Northumberland with one of my best friends in October.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I certainly hope I don't dissuade anyone from posting anything woeful, but a few posts today were the last straw, and I decided I - and probably everyone on my friendslist - desperately needed to hear some good news.

That sounds quite lovely. :D

Hmm...

1. I am looking forward to a weekend of uninterrupted, continuous writing.

2. Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

3. Samhain/Halloween is my favorite time of year.

4. One of my oldest friends is getting married in November, and I'll get to see the old high school crew -- one of whom just revealed she was pregnant and sent me the cutest ultrasound (sonogram? whatever they're called).

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I've got the audio version of Anansi Boys and am saving it for the flight to San Francisco, which will hopefully get enough anticipation up to overcome at least some of my general nervousness about flying.

Today, the Japanese Department is making curry for the 1st years in sort of a welcoming party thing. ^_^ Thinking about it has brought a smile to my face all day (it could also be because curry= yumhappiness for me, but the thought also counts a lot too!).

*thinks*

[livejournal.com profile] neko_san posted that she's working on molecular and spiral origami. I can't wait to see it. Looking at the sort of thing she comes up with (http://www.geocities.com/mpinaki/origami/gallry03.html) always makes me smile.

(That gallery's not hers, but it is spectacular.)

1) I'm going to see Neil Gaiman at BookPeople on Monday (I hope).

2) I made the first cut for a job I applied for a few weeks ago and have been asked to do a phone interview in a couple of weeks.

3) Going to Charleston in early November and then taking the train to visit friends in North Carolina.

4) And this didn't happen to me personally, but a friend from New Orleans wrote earlier this week to say that all three of her cats had been rescued and were in good condition after spending three weeks in her apartment in one of the flooded parts of town. That was the best bright spot I've had all week.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Yay!

2) Cool! Where? *[livejournal.com profile] telophase thinks about trying to work out a trip to SA or something before hiring since she hasn't seen you in person in, what, five years? more?

3) Nifty.

4) That makes me very happy indeed.

Not only did I get a new (and vastly better job), but I got to go home early from it, so I can nap (I mean prepare for the hurricane).

Also, my neighbor boarded up his house. Windows and doors. But he was on the outside and couldn't get it. He and I had a good laugh about it and then I helped him pry off the board from the door so he could get in!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)

How could I forget anime? I am looking forward to seeing The Place Promised in Our Early Days and sharing Haibane Renmei, Gunslinger Girl, and Fullmetal Alchemist with friends.

I've given up catching FMA in the right order on Adult Swim, so I've tossed it onto my Netflix list.

And speaking of which, the third movie I mailed back in has *finally* gotten to them, five days after the other two movies I sent at the same time reached them, which is good because two have already been lost in the mail in the past six months (one going, one coming) and I was getting paranoid, plus they sent me volume 32 of InuYasha, which is good because they'd previously sent volume 33.

I'm usually good at these be-happy post type things, but I can't think so well right now.
1. I have a llama on my desk.
2. I've been lounging around in a yukata all day.
3. Mmmmgreenteawithtoastedrice.
4. The release of Corpse Bride.
5. My inability to count. Before I typed 5 over to the left there, I typed 3, then 4, then 4, then 6.

I think i'll end this here for now :)

I have gotten my partner (the one with the DVD-writer in this relationship) to burn all 26 eps of Saiyuki Reload Gunlock for you! And I hope to get them in the mail by Wednesday at the latest, if not this weekend. ^_^

We're also planning to commune with Fall by going apple-picking this weekend, if we can find a u-pick orchard, and the weather (in Ontario, Canada) holds.

I'm going to the National Book Festival tomorrow to do some serious American History geeking. (Protesters be damned!)

I'm getting a copy of Anansi Boys on Sunday, hopefully signed.

I'm unloading some extra manga on a seriously underemployed friend and will be introducing her to the wonders that are Minekura and Mirage of Blaze when she comes to visit tomorrow.

Uhh...I've probably got more but nothing's coming.

Re: Good Things

Good idea!

+ My writing's making me very happy
+ My husband looks really cute in his new glasses
+ The virginia creeper on my garage is the most gorgeous shade of scarlet.
+ I have a cup of tea, a bar of chocolate, anime to watch and no work tomorrow morning. :)

I have tea, anime, and no work tomorrow morning BUT NO CHOCOLATE. This is a tragedy!! I must remedy this ASAP...

This week of grey storm clouds desperately needs some sunshine.

As for me, I:

* am going to the Tower of London with a friend tomorrow to enjoy History, followed by a trip to the pub to have a drink in the memory of our friend;
* do some artwork;
* enjoy my new doujinshi 8) and scan the SasuSaku one, since its verra purty.
* buy the newest DVD for the anime, Last Exile~
* spend time enjoying the company of my kitton
* go see Howl's Moving Castle in company next weekend.

Only little things, but they make me happy.

My friend, who I haven't seen in a month, is coming home from college the weekend of October 7 and she's having a big birthday party and so many people are going to be there! I'm really looking forward to seeing her and all my other friends from college and getting to act crazy with them like old times.

My happy news, hopefully to cheer you (though it cheers me substantially more, of course!):

I quit my hellish job two weeks ago, without a job to go to, because I couldn't take it anymore. I got the first job that I applied for, working as a professional photographer in a portrait studio, something I've wanted to do for a while. :)

Tonight I am going to go see the Corpse Bride at the Alamo Drafthouse, which happens to be one of the most awesome theaters ever.

Tomorrow, there was supposed to be a meeting at work, which are really dumb and long and pointless. Thank God for hurricanes, it got canceled due to questionable weather. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)

I'm looking forward to going to Anime Weekend Atlanta tomorrow with a friend I haven't seen in a long time and will enjoy getting to reconnnect with.
