Not a good week for anyone, it seems...

This has not been a good week for anyone I know, it seems. There have been illnesses and deaths of friends, family and pets, evacuations with various and sundry ordeals thereof, bureaucracy, jobs lost or not hired for, frustration, anger, righteous indignation, sadness, fright, and fear.

So, because I've pretty much spent the entire week in front of the computer worried, appalled, or teary-eyed on the behalf of about everyone I know, feel free to post here with something that makes you happy, or makes you smile, or something you're interested in, intrigued by, looking forward to, or that just tends to fall more on the positive side of life.

A few good things form me, to kick it off with: I'm looking forward to an upcoming small get-together with a few friends where we're basically doing a pub-crawl and staggering from place to place until the cops start frowning at us, I'm anticipating my trip to California next month, and I can make my cat drool like a Laborador retriever, which I find immensely amusing because I am easily entertained.

What's up with you?

Maybe it's a bit twisted, but I'm about to go outside and fly a kite in the path of a hurricane. This makes me smile.

  • To Ride a Rathorn will be coming out in a year.
  • [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's book will be out soon (sometimes it seems a little odd to me that I anticipate being amused by her pain).
  • My brother will visit in about a week.
  • I have a shiny new computer!
  • I have LJ friends who give me useful dating advice.

I got a job lead at a computer game company.

Makes me smile, too, just 'cause I can enjoy it vicariously. :D I'm not much of an adrenalin junkie, so I just get sick and terrified with possible danger, but I like reading about it, if that makes sense. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee!

I'm anticipating [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's book as well, which Amazon shall deliver to me as soon as they can, I hope.

Cool! Good luck with that. :)

This has not been a good week for anyone I know, it seems.

I've noticed this weird phenomenon too, although I know I've added to the general woe. And so:

I am going to spend a week in a cottage on the beach in Northumberland with one of my best friends in October.

Hmm...

1. I am looking forward to a weekend of uninterrupted, continuous writing.

2. Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

3. Samhain/Halloween is my favorite time of year.

4. One of my oldest friends is getting married in November, and I'll get to see the old high school crew -- one of whom just revealed she was pregnant and sent me the cutest ultrasound (sonogram? whatever they're called).

Today, the Japanese Department is making curry for the 1st years in sort of a welcoming party thing. ^_^ Thinking about it has brought a smile to my face all day (it could also be because curry= yumhappiness for me, but the thought also counts a lot too!).

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I certainly hope I don't dissuade anyone from posting anything woeful, but a few posts today were the last straw, and I decided I - and probably everyone on my friendslist - desperately needed to hear some good news.

That sounds quite lovely. :D

*thinks*

[livejournal.com profile] neko_san posted that she's working on molecular and spiral origami. I can't wait to see it. Looking at the sort of thing she comes up with (http://www.geocities.com/mpinaki/origami/gallry03.html) always makes me smile.

(That gallery's not hers, but it is spectacular.)

:D I've got the audio version of Anansi Boys and am saving it for the flight to San Francisco, which will hopefully get enough anticipation up to overcome at least some of my general nervousness about flying.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
:D That sounds cool - they seem to do a lot for their students, judging by your posts.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Nifty! And that gallery is, indeed, spectacular.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, pretty!

1) I'm going to see Neil Gaiman at BookPeople on Monday (I hope).

2) I made the first cut for a job I applied for a few weeks ago and have been asked to do a phone interview in a couple of weeks.

3) Going to Charleston in early November and then taking the train to visit friends in North Carolina.

4) And this didn't happen to me personally, but a friend from New Orleans wrote earlier this week to say that all three of her cats had been rescued and were in good condition after spending three weeks in her apartment in one of the flooded parts of town. That was the best bright spot I've had all week.

geez, and we don't even have the same friends list! although I suspect there is some crossover among the reported woes. Mine came neck in neck with another exactly like it.

I had a hard time thinking of good news, I've been feeling so blue, but I know I am very lucky. And I do have some nice things lined up for the coming weeks.

No response necessary!

oh, and I forgot, my new FMA DVD is on its way. hee hee hee [gloats]

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Yay!

2) Cool! Where? *[livejournal.com profile] telophase thinks about trying to work out a trip to SA or something before hiring since she hasn't seen you in person in, what, five years? more?

3) Nifty.

4) That makes me very happy indeed.

[livejournal.com profile] lnhammer and I lived in different cities. Now we live in the same one. We've done so for like 12 years now, but it still makes me smile.

[identity profile] miss-maroo.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only did I get a new (and vastly better job), but I got to go home early from it, so I can nap (I mean prepare for the hurricane).

Also, my neighbor boarded up his house. Windows and doors. But he was on the outside and couldn't get it. He and I had a good laugh about it and then I helped him pry off the board from the door so he could get in!

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
How could I forget anime? I am looking forward to seeing The Place Promised in Our Early Days and sharing Haibane Renmei, Gunslinger Girl, and Fullmetal Alchemist with friends.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
*pokes over to your friendslist because she is nosy* Sheesh, yeah. Definitely crossover, and yeah, much the same. and I'm popping up every other post because everyone else knows how to confine themselves to one post a day. XD

No response necessary!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I FOOL YOU BY RESPONDING ANYWAY!!!!!

I finished the scarf I was making for my aunt. Yay! Also, some of the links for my random link Friday made me laugh.
