Someone on my Facebook page is posting crap like "If you check the old medical manuals, measles etc. used to be 'benign childhood illnesses' merely needing rest and supportive care - before there were vaccines to sell, with billions of dollars in the offing."

Have unfriended with extreme prejudice.* But without making any comments to her about it, so score one for being reasonably adult. But not without vaguebooking about it on FB and here (post-unfriending!) so minus points for not being adult enough.

(she's someone I see periodically in daily life...if she mentions something about not seeing any FB updates anymore, I shall have to figure out how to deflect the subject.)



* You do this by yelling "FOR SPAAAAARTA!" as you click the button. Yelling it in your head is ok if you're in a place like a library where you need to remain quiet.

You're more tactful than I am, but seeing someone periodically in daily life does make it more difficult.

Anti-vaccination people are, um. One of my hot-spork buttons. And I'm already sporky enough.

She's a coworker, bah. I notice that another of my coworkers has posted a link to an article about Melinda Gates saying "People have forgotten what measles deaths look like," so I suspect the passive-aggressive war is on! (I Liked the post. Least I could do.)

I *did* consider posting "Why do you think it's more profitable to sell vaccines eradicating the disease but not to let it continue and sell over-the-counter remedies for it?" but I managed to step away from the keyboard.

I distinctly recall that there could be various unpleasant post-measles effects, for example, sterility. (It's been a while.)

I have to say that I do not think well of anti-vaxxers at all.

I try to not get engaged because nothing happens except I get frustrated and trigger a migraine!

Pretty sure that one of my friends is deaf as a result of his mother being exposed to measles when she was pregnant with him... And she was immunised. =\

Oh, but it's a common, minor childhood disease! And if I can believe an earlier post of hers, proper nutrition and the right vitamins would have rendered it harmless!

Someday someone is going to describe some of the side effects of these diseases 'not a big deal' and I'm going to punch them. I'm not really proud of that, I just know I'm going to do it.

One of my friends caught whooping cough a couple of years ago and had a hell of a time, and she's an adult in extremely good health and shape otherwise. I cannot imagine putting a child through that if there were any other option available.
