Sum total of plans for first full day in Tokyo

  • Find department store sale of Christmas stuff and buy some sort of Santa*
  • Find a Mister Donut and buy cupcakes.
  • Sleep

* I'm not entirely sure how or why I started this, but once we bought the house I started collecting Santas figures/dolls/what-have-you, one per year. I am hoping against all hope that there will be something available on December 27th in the clearance areas, because to go to Japan over Christmas and not get something to commemorate that would be just a bit sad. (If I don't find one, I'll probably order one from somewhere online. HOPEFULLY. SOMEHOW.)

Easy way out, probably: Sanrio store in Ikebukuro, Hello Kitty Santa. It's not far from the Tokyu Hands store, which I bet you'd like, if you've never been there. Lots of art/crafts/cooking stuff.

I had great luck shopping at Tokyu Hands in...Akihabara, I think. It also had the cat petting zone. On the lower floors, they had a lot of seasonal decorating stuff.

I was wrong, I went to the one in Ikebukuro, though there are also ones in Shinjuku and Shibuya. I can also recommend the big Seibu department store that is literally upstairs from the train station. I really liked shopping in Ikibukuro generally - my host also said that the prices are a little cheaper than those in Ginza or Shinjuku.
