I got to level 24, where I ran out of time rather than picking the wrong square. I hadn't even realised there was a timer!
It's interesting because even the later ones where the difference was often very subtle, I found that the first square my eye was drawn to always turned out to be the different one.
...I guess my eyes are better than I thought because I got to a certain point and was clicking at random boxes and continuing on and thinking that it must be grading you on how many you got correct because I couldn't possibly be actually be picking these out as different and eventually I ran out of time and it gave me a level.
But apparently I was, because the second time through I clicked on something at around the same point and nothing happened.
I was envious at the Metafilter commenters who managed to get much farther than I did. But I do have a cheap, lowest-bidder type monitor at work and will have to check at home.
I got about as far as you did my first run; I played a couple more times and got to 32 twice. I don't actually know how good my monitor is here though, or if the one on my laptop is better. (It's a Mac, so maybe? Apple is supposed to be better at graphics than Windows.)
I did it again and got a 25. I used Chrome instead of Firefox that time, but I don't know if that makes any difference or if I just got lucky in the color choices.
Hmm, I seem to do fairly okay until a certain mid-blue/grey colour comes up and then I can't tell the difference at all. Top level was 27 (first attempt I got only 15 ^^)
In the Metafilter comments someone had a story of a friend who worked at IBM doing branding stuff who didn't learn she was slightly colorblind for blues until she ended up in a job where she had to compare shades of blue!
I seem to be equally blind in all colors, however. I can't yet find a pattern where I get stopped.
