Parakkeks ketter
Leaving the typo above, where I had my fingers one key over, because I find it amusing. Also, if you're one of my f-list (or found this journal randomly) are unaware of the Parallels fic/art/vid exchange for rare Asian fandoms, read up on it here:
parallelsfic.
Now on to the letter!
Dear Parallels Creator:
Optional details are always optional! If your muse takes you in a totally different direction, then follow it, because I'd rather have a work you enjoyed creating than something that drove you crazy trying to bend to my directions. If you want or need more direction or inspiration that I've given here, check out the tags on this post, which will take you to my Parallels, Yuletide, and Yuletart letters (among other maunderings on the subjects) which have what I like about these and other fandoms, and requests I've made throughout the years.
You DO NOT have to include all the characters I listed in any of the fandoms. I'll let you know if there are any characters I like better than others. When seeking fic and art out, I tend to gravitate towards gen, and to plotty works. Do not feel you need to restrain yourself to that, especially as it's hard to get plotty in 500 words!
And: thank you! Whatever you create for me I'll love, because you took the time to do it for me.
1. Die Renjie | Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame
What I like: Strong women being strong. Also, I have a weakness for characters that appear to be bad/evil/antagonistic at first and are revealed to be different, or who change (coughPeicough).
An earlier case of Di's would also be interesting. :)
2. Mugen no Juunin | Blade of the Immortal
(I keep requesting this in every exchange I enter: maybe one day someone will match on it!)
I originally gave a large list of characters, but I realized the matching would be a bit weird, so hey! "Any" it is! I'll say that my favorite characters are:
Anotsu Kagehisa
Asano Rin
Taito Magatsu
Manji
Otono-Tachibana Makie
Hyakurin
Giichi (Mugen no Juunin)
Yasunookami Isaku
Yoshino Doua
BUT! You do not have to try to shove them all in, or even use any of them. I realize this opens me up to the possibility of a story all about the life of one of the frogs Rin and Manji cooked and ate in one of the earlier volumes, but I WILL TAKE THAT RISK. (They ate frogs right? I'm not making that up?)
I have not read beyond the U.S. releases. I really do like the brother/sister dynamic between Rin and Manji...and on looking at the list I realize I have chosen a bunch of couples or one sort or another (plus Magatsu)! Have at it, and have fun.
3. Natsume Yuujinchou
I love yokai. :D Madara/Nyanko-sensei is pretty awesome. I also like the sense of the numinous that the anime and manga hold. If you prefer to focus on Natsume's human friends, could you attempt to shove at least one yokai in there besides Nyanko-sensei? If you are lost for inspiration about yokai, there's always yokai.com or Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai to poke about in. (The stories are really all about Natume's search for companionship and connection, even though he thinks at the beginning that he doesn't need it, and his adventures with the yokai echo that, so if that strikes a spark with you, go that way. :D)
4. Mushishi
Another manga/anime in which the sense of the numinous really hits home with me. I like stories in which the main character is traveling and seeing new places and new things, and I also really like the way that Ginko views the mushi as natural parts of the world, just usually on a slightly different level than humans occupy.
Anyway! Enough about me! Have fun and thank you again!

You're making me want to sign up ... I have been trying to talk myself out of it.

I'm signing up just so that I will do at least one artwork this year. :) (Maybe I'll even write something for it instead of drawing! Who knows?!)
