Hawk!

There was a hawk on our neighbor's roof this morning. All I had was a phone camera, so here it is zoomed in to max, in rather bad quality, but enough to see the bars on its tail. It was brown, rather than the grey that the camera makes it seem to be.

Brown, barred tail, and going by the size relative to the shingles, odds are a Cooper's hawk (which despite the name is actually a falcon). Other possibilities are a prairie falcon or sharp-shinned hawk, but Coopers particularly thrive in urban areas. (And the profile seems off for sharp-shinned anyway.)

S/he looks dignified yet floofy^^ I think it's nicer to see a hawk on your neighbor's roof than four or five vultures! =D

There's turkey vultures in the area, too! Although I've never seen one in the yard or on nearby houses, there's usually a few wheeling around on the lookout for roadkill a bit further down the road.

Anyway, our feeders were deserted this morning, for reasons I'm sure you can guess!
