(no subject)

I was trying to ferret novels out of Project Gutenberg in the genre of "young women at college," and got sidetracked by one of those how-to books on the subject of health & beauty: the 1913 edition of What Young Women Ought to Know. So, women, you know those painful periods you get? CAUSED BY READING NOVELS. Also, by standing on one foot.

Ha! I also like how he doesn't notice that standing with your chest against a door might be a different thing for women than for men.

Wow. I had considered and then rejected that hypothesis without bothering to check. :)

What happens if you read novels while standing on one foot? (Aside from falling over.)

I'm going to think of this book full of bad folklore whenever I see one of those woo-woo "Wise Woman Medicine" kinds of places that offer newagey advice that doesn't have any evil science or evidence-based medicine in it.
