Jewelry question!

So. As I totally avoid malls as much as possible, and I haven't bought jewelry other than my wedding ring and a pair of earrings and necklace because we got a coupon from the place Toby got his wedding ring, I find myself in need of help for finding place I can buy jewelry online or offline.

I've got a new haircut and I don't like it that much as it's too boyish (long story, may tell it later, a bit too short to fix for a few weeks). I feel the need to femme myself up, and the best way to do that id through accessorizing. Especially dangly earrings. And I'm considering actually buying stuff that coordinates, shocck! horror! instead of buying stuff at random, like I usually do.

So! Suggestions! My tastes tend to vintage, 1930s or earlier, silver or silver-colored, with colorful accents. I have a pair of large silver hoops that are my favorite earrings now, for example. Think the 1928 brand.

I tend not to like wrapped-wire stuff or earrings that are beads on wire. Things like [livejournal.com profile] elisem's works leave me cold, alas, for I love the stories and names she gives them! Although one of you gave me a pair of silver-wire hoops with simple beads strung on them that I wore for years until I lost one!

I'm mostly looking for earrings and necklaces. I've got plenty of pendants on long chains, but they don't work well with the necklines I'm wearing a lot of lately, and I break bracelets almost as soon as I put them on.

Ruby Lane. A lot of great used stuff. Caveat emptor, a lot of the sellers have no idea what they are selling and talk very authoritatively in a way that can be unintentionally misleading. Like, sellers who mean well often mistake good 1928 reproductions for the real thing.

It sounds like your easiest options would be to get one or two short chains to move your existing pendants onto, and maybe another set of hoop earrings and beads to put on them. Someplace like a department store would definitely have simple chains, and it's nice to go in person so you can feel whether it's scratchy (maybe this is just me?) and see where the length falls on you. Hoops ditto, and large-holed beads seem to be trendy enough right now that specialty bead stores will have at least some color selection available.

Some of Modcloth's earrings might appeal to you, too.

You can get chains of adjustable length, which is my jewelry discovery of the year.

I didn't know about 1928. This is going to be fabulous (and painful). Thanks?

I am very sad to see that Fire and Ice is a local chain, more or less (I did not know that - they are so common around here), and there is not one anywhere near your area. They have a website, but the selection is nowhere near what's available in their stores. But you might check them out anyway. I have bought more gifts there than I can remember.

Even smaller local chains, also with websites, are As Kindred Spirits and Appalachian Spring, both of which also have various sorts of non-jewelry handcrafted gifts. Again, these are places that I buy lots of gifts. And one of my own favorite jewelery pieces is a channel-cut opal and silver bracelet from As Kindred Spirits.

Finally, a number of museum stores also have websites.

Etsy! Etsy is great for this sort of thing. I own way too much Etsy jewelry. Here are some of my favorite stores:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/FoamyWader

You can also use tags or the search function to find stuff you like, though.
