(no subject)

Took a long lunch and dropped by the local polling station for early voting, as I wanted to avoid the long lines on Election Day. So my civic duty is now done and I can legitimately complain at length about my elected officials, since I done my best not to elect them.

Toby and I spent part of last night going through our local elections on vote411.org and working out who we tended to agree with. And boggling at the candidates who didn't get someone to look over their statements and correct their spelling before submitting them. Who knew that so many candidates for local office were concerned about employee moral in their respective departments? That missing 'e' does a lot to change the meaning.

Oh my gosh, I looked at one local candidate's webpage and all I took away from the experience was that he didn't ask anybody to edit the copy before he put it up. I feel like that's a bad sign.

Yup. Not bothering to copy-edit, not bothering to read the directions*, and not bothering to reply to a request from the League of Women Voters for your stand? Sorry, that really does speak a lot about your abilities to perform the job of an elected official. Or at least your attitudes towards same.

* You get exactly X number of characters to answer the question. If you go over, they cut you off and post it to the site exactly as written, so several candidates' replies were cut off mid-word. And it ends up being blindingly obvious when you speak in generalities and platitudes and your opponent speaks with specific solutions to problems.

Maybe it's just a new way of saying "corporate shill" without anyone noticing? ;D
