Paleolithic cave paintings using animation effects. Short version: cave paintings in France often depicted animals with multiple body parts, like multiple legs or tails. The current thinking is that as the paintings were viewed by torchlight, the flickering light would produce an animation effect.

Also, I think it's a nice little reminder to current peoples not to get too full of ourselves. It's easy to think of Homo sapiens circua 2012 as being vastly more sophisticated, intelligent, and so on, but as with many things in life it's really not that simple.

It sort of humanizes the Paleolithic people a little bit more for me -- you can see the thought the artist had to put into it, both in the technical details that they had to put in, and in the effect created by those details.
