(no subject)

Here's a question that's bothered me off and on ever since I had a friend whose dad made her wash all the dishes in hot soapy water before putting them in the dishwasher many years ago. In *my* family, the idea was pretty much - if you have to wash it in hot soapy water before putting it into the dishwasher, you've got a crummy dishwasher and might as well not bother using it.

I'll use hot soapy water occasionally if I've got stubborn stuff that needs to get off, but for the most part, I rinse to knock the chunks off and then put it into the dishwasher. And don't seem to be ded from badly-washed dishes yet.

I don't have a dishwasher, my family is too poor (that and we have nowhere to put one). If I did have a dishwasher though I don't think I'd bother unless food was really encrusted on it, as the whole point of a dishwasher is to not wash the dishes yourself. :)
