Okaaaay.... Amazon review of Math and the Mona Lisa by rampant homophobe who takes issue with the author's discussion of Leonardo's sexuality.

(Alas, the other reviews tend to convince me that the book is a bit too slight to bother with reading, but that one tempts me to say "methinks the author doth protest too much.")

That seems to be the new thing to do on Amazon by homophobes. Neil Gaiman was tweeting over the weekend about American Gods getting two of those.

That "face-hiding beard"? Um, yeah. Andrew Sullivan. Harvey Fierstein. Or ...

... yep. Sure enough, the internet is WAY AHEAD OF ME on this. A google search on "bears with beards" is all a brother needs.

I had a momentary urge, instantly quelled, to point out that while Leonardo kept the Mona Lisa for the rest of his life, he also kept the Saint John the Baptist (http://arthistory.about.com/od/leonardo/ig/leonardo_paintings/ldvpg_22.htm) painting with him for the rest of his life, reportedly gazing on it on his deathbed*, and boy howdy that is one beautiful John the Baptist! So I'm not sure the reviewer's argument that keeping the Mona Lisa meant Leonardo was 100% het means anything.

* Unless I read that on some conspiracy website or book.

Cite here, (http://www.lairweb.org.nz/leonardo/john.html) though they don't say what their source was. Saint John the Baptist is certainly wearing quite a bit less than the Mona Lisa....
