[livejournal.com profile] lilrivkah's report from WizardWorld Chicago.

Overview of the upcoming Comiket 68, both from Animania.

For a while I've been reading the blog of an ambitious guy opening a comic store. As a lot of people do, I remain a bit skeptical that he'll be able to keep it going with his particular vision, but I certainly wish him success and hope he makes it - you can see his love for comics.

And another regular on my blogroll is the "Liberry" Guy, a librarian in the South chronicling the strange and amusing events and patrons who walk through the door of his library.

OMG!! Journalfen stole the LJ code! *headdesk*

Nyanko-chan does her own version of the cover for Bleach 17, in marker no less. (She does the comic Next Exit for Slave Labor Graphics, and has a story in Rising Stars of Manga 3.)

...boy, that's some choice stupidity. How do you steal open-source code, anyway?

Well, it's not stealing unless you're wearing a stripey shirt and a black mask and you stuff the code into a sack.

I didn't know she did Next Exit! I like the art but couldn't really get into the storyline. Huh.

And her Bleach cover if fanfsckingtastic! It makes me want to retire from art x_x

I haven't picked up Next Exit, although I liked the art in RSOM. That marker work there just makes me whimper in envy. I asked her what paper she uses, though it'll probably get lost in the huge amount of comments she gets - and I also realized that I need to ask what scanner she has and what settings she uses: I can't get a scan of anywhere near that quality. My current scanner is trying to die - it scans in things partially pixelated (not noticeable unless you scrutinize the lines closely, but it's driving me nuts), and if TEH SEEKRIT PROJEKT goes through, a new scanner purchase is tops on the list.

I feel your pain about the scanner problems. Mine's heading south and quick! I lost so much shading in this last piece (http://www.ninja-monkey.com/images/fanart/BLEACH_kontsubaki.jpg) I tried to scan that I'm just dishertened to work in pencil until I can get better scanning technology. Forget scanning in markers or watercolors :P

That looks pretty good, without having seen the original, but I can tell the areas that should have more detail and subtlety in them.

One day, however, I will succeed in scanning a marker piece to my satisfaction! This I vow!
