All was right with the world, for a while.
Toby and I had sushi last night and I realized I hadn't had my head hurt or feel like hurting in several days, so I dared a drink. My alcohol tolerance is waaay down since my college days, so one drink sent me rather loopy, which entertained Toby as we poked about World Market seeing if there were any cabinets we liked.*
And we went home, and went to sleep rather late (for us, now that we are old and settled), past midnight. It was a nice, restorative, restful sleep...
...until the smoke detector battery in the hallway near our offices ran low and started chirping at 6AM. Toby crawled up out of sleep enough to realize what it was, and dragged himself out of bed and changed the battery. And returned, whereupon we both sank into peaceful, restful sleep...
...until 6:20, when the battery in the smoke detector in the master bedroom directly about my head ran low and it started chirping. And when Toby dragged the short stepladder back out of the garage, he discovered that oops, the detector is in the inset tray part of the ceiling and is therefore out of his reach and we HAVE NO LADDER TALL ENOUGH.
So we ended up fleeing to the spare bedroom and inserting earplugs into our ears and putting pillows on top of our heads to escape the relentless chirp. I slept 2 more hours, then woke up at 8:30 to very bad pressure in my head** and got up, while Toby managed to stay in bed, if not asleep, for another hour and a half or so.
So, yeah, not so restful now! Toby swung by Lowe's and picked up an 8' stepladder and switched out ALL THE BATTERIES IN ALL THE SMOKE DETECTORS so they should, at least, go out all at once again. :)
Annoyingly, we'd picked up C02 detectors the other day and when the chirp started going off, we were both convinced, in our bleary barely-awake states, that they obviously had to be the ones going off.
* For the living room niche.
** Meds seem to have taken care of most of it. We shall see.
