New rug!

Just got back from running around. I finally broke down and had a thingy installed in my car which allows me to plug in the iPhone and play it through the radio WITHOUT the interference that I normally get when using the plug-in thingy that plays it through the radio (because the stations in town bleed all over the *&^*^ spectrum). It cost $150 including installation, but considering that the plug-in variety costs half that, plus doesn't work very well and ends up with the wires breaking after a year of heavy use, since I plug my iPhone in to listen to music, podcasts, or audiobooks every time I'm in the car, and really, it's way more cost-effective.

Anyway, so we left my car to be worked on and went to Lowe's for a few things and to take another look at the rugs, and ended up with the one pictures below. It claims to be a Persian design, and was made in India, and it looks sort of pre-faded, like it's seen some use, which I rather like. :D

Works much better than the round one - I couldn't tell you explicitly why I didn't like the round one, but there was sort of a tension whenever I looked at it that isn't there when I look at this one.

SOmeone, I think it was [livejournal.com profile] estara, mentioned that a plain rug would look good with the fireplace and I agree, but I decided that I really wanted an Oriental style rug, and that since our furniture was all solid colors it would look better with a patterned rug.

Woo!

The old rug is currently rolled up and draped over the chair while Sparky the Roomba does the master bedroom (full of little bits of Styrofoam from the bed frame packing materials), and then it'll go in there. No pictures of the whole of the master bedroom yet as it and my office are the last two bastions of unpacked stuff. :)

I doesn't look like it's trying to contain the furniture the way the round one was...

I was just thinking that. The round one seemed to super focus everything on to the rug/ coffee table, where as this squarer one lets my eyes wander a bit.

Nice!

And if your time is of any value whatever, you'll probably make the $150 back in saved fiddling/irritation.

Oh, lord, yes. I used to have to have the iPhone in physical contact with me not to have horrible static, so I'd drive with it tucked into my seatbelt or, when Toby was along, with him holding it.

It also hated bridges and big trucks, so when one or the other was nearby, might as well pause it.

This totally works, as well - I agree. It reminds me of what my parents did in their living room - my dad is Syrian and we've always had oriental rugs in our house (though mostly Persians, I think). My own home has Gabbeh style rugs, which are more solid coloured with only small bits of design - but they come in all kinds of lovely warm colours.

The base colour of your patterned rug really picks up various reds from the brick, from the wood floor and even from the chaise longue.

The rug oddly pulls the chaise and the new red chair together, as it's got red in both darker and lighter orangey shades. XD

Your home looks so cozy and organized.

Only temporary, I assure you! (well, Toby's the neatnik who putters around cleaning stuff when he needs to think. I drop stuff wherever I am and don't pick it up until I can't stand how messy the house is any longer.)
