NONONONO Cat

NONONONO cat. Video of a cat with a distinctive way of complaining. (Yes, the cat is scared - according to the commentary it's freaked out by seeing a child for the first time. It's letting its owner pet it, so it's not fully frightened - there are many of us who bear scars from picking up or touching a completely frightened cat!)

And this is what happens when you open NONONONO Cat in several browser tabs and let them play all at once. It's a crescendo of NONONO Cat.

And I have to wonder - if this is the cat's response to seeing a child for the first time, was the cat abused by a child previously, or is it just more of a special snowflake than Sora is? Knowing cats, either possibility is likely!

I wish people would understand that a cat being scared is not animal abuse, especially when they got plenty of room to turn around and hide. Also, kitty is pretty tolerant of one of their persons trying to comfort it, so it's not *utterly* frightened.

Cats do dumb things.

Exactly! It's showing bravado here, puffing up and turning sideways to the things it's scared of. It'd be doing the same thing if it met a feline rival.

It could be that the cat was abused by a child, or it could be that the cat is even more of a special snowflake than Sora is.* Knowing cats, both possibilities are equally likely.


* And you'd swear he'd been abused by the way he acts, but I've had him since he was 2 months old and he hasn't been!

My favorite part was when one of the humans started mirroring the NO-NO-NO-NO noise, and the cat kept answering.

I have a talkative cat, and we exchange whiny cat noises all the time. He meows, I meow back, he waits for me to finish, then repeats his original meow; sometimes, it's plaintive, sometimes, it's just social noise.

And yeah, that cat is clearly somewhat freaked, but if it were in serious distress, it wouldn't be hanging around where a camera could easily capture it, and letting itself be petted.

Nefer is occasionally talkative, but she mostly croaks at us, something I'd transliterate as a nasal "Anh!" Sora has a teeny tiny high-pitched "mew" that Toby loves making him do before he puts Sora's plate of gooshyfood down. XD
