Are you an American expat living in Tokyo? Apparently HGTV is looking for you - they're doing a new TV series on American living abroad and is casting for Tokyo. More detail here. "The host will experience a foreign city through the eyes of three expat families - from design and features of their home to the differences in lifestyle and culture of the area - each episode will give viewers a first-hand look into what it’s like to live overseas!"

Huh.

That sounds like a show I'd actually like to watch. Though I suspect they might find 3 really annoying families that I'd end up wanting to hit. Such is the way of these things.

Naturally. Instead of the people who moved to Japan because they love the culture and who respect it, they'll go with people who moved there because they were transferred there for work and who try to make a little island of America in their house. Or something like that.

Given that this is HGTV, I predict there will be at least one awesome family that loves and embraces the local culture, but then they always seem inclined to balance that with complete and total whiners. I must confess to living in terror that the whiners will be a military family who will say horrible, racist things without any awareness that they are horrible and racist. DO NOT WANT.

Most likely, unfortunately.
