I was cheering for the guy handing out flipflops to people and had to remind myself that he was a fictional character.
Heck, I even read a series of blog posts today some guy made about two Sims characters he tweaked up to be a homeless man and his daughter (http://aliceandkev.wordpress.com/) and I laughed at and cried with them.* They had more emotional reality to me than the characters in Ashfall.
* I just DARE you to remain dry-eyed at what one character does right after getting their first paycheck!
ETA: Accidentally chose Stephen Fry as my icon, but it seems to fit. XD
If I get any sort of results, expect reports! It's got 26 minutes more to download, and then I have to figure out how to play it - I haven't played any Sims thing since, like, SimCity I or something.
(Hopefully there's a Mama's Boy personality trait!)

That article was exactly what I wanted out of Ashfall and didn't get. In fact, the flipflop guy was what I wanted and didn't get.

Those posts mmmmay have spurred me to buy The Sims through Steam and see if I can set up people with Nefer and Sora's personalities...no subject

(admittedly, it's been at that stage for several thousand years and is likely to be at it for several thousand more...)
