Peeectures!

Mostly of birds on the feeder, although a couple of Sora and one of Nefer. Watching the birds on the feeder, at least in Sora's case.

Sora looking noble.

Nefer, in her preferred spot these days.

I liked the reflection here and only wish I could have got Sora more in focus.

We ended up with four of the sparrow-type things, and I'm now reconsidering my preliminary identification of field sparrows, since they all have marks on their breasts and field sparrows don't seem to. Hmmmm.

Bedraggled bird.

Keeping an eye on us.

Soon...

The scratches on the window (from the previous owners' dogs, we think) look like raindrops. :)

I think this may be my best shot today. Still not 100% in focus, but the thing is trying to focus through double-paned glass on moving subjects in low lighting conditions.

I love this guy.

And these guys.

We had four birds at once as the highest number, but they couldn't tolerate that many at the same time and consistently argued until one or two flew off a short distance.

This guy's got a stray feather on his head, so I can tell him apart from the others, at least for today, until he grooms it back down or it falls out.

So forlorn.

Intent on the seeds.

if you can get just black oil sunflower seed, use that instead of the mix; very few birds want the millet that makes up a huge percentage of the mixes and it will often sprout and become a weed later because they just toss it on the ground. Most birds will be happy with the sunflower seed. You do need to rake up the hulls, as they can kill the grass when they accumulate too much.

Bigger birds like jays like cracked corn, if you can get it.

We have just two feeders now, one for nyjer thistle seed and one for sunflower. The thistle is popular for goldfinches and a few other birds that are not equipped to crack sunflower. If you get a thistle feeder, the metal mesh ones that the birds can cling to in any direction are good; also the ones with perches above the seed hole, as goldfinches will feed upside-down and other birds won't.

Finally, watch out for rodents (another reason to keep the under-feeder area fairly tidy, though ground feeders will scratch up a lot of the fallen seed.)

Hmm, the beak makes me think maybe a finch variety? This is based solely on my observation of a friend's pet zebra finches 15+ years ago, though, so I'm probably wrong. XD Either way, they're really cute!

Yeah, consensus on Dreamwidth and Facebook is leaning towards female or juvenile house finches.

According to allaboutbirds.org, they may show up in flocks of 50 strong!

A bird best described as "numerous and belligerent."

I believe it!

My favorite thing about Sora-faced cats is the bigger nose, it makes them (to me) look like a big cat that has been hit with a shrink ray. :) It also makes them look more worried than the usual housecat, imo.

XD I like his Roman-nosed profile, and Nefer's snub-nosed profile. She's a cat of contradictions - her muzzle and her paws are dainty, especially the way she always sits with her paws placed daintily together, but her body is built like a linebacker.
