Sloooowly getting better. Still coughing but not as many times throughout the day, still tired but not as much, still can’t taste or smell anything.

I can taste salt and sweet. Chili heat as well, though that’s brought about by different sensors in your mouth, I think. And a faint sense of umami.

As I told [personal profile] myrialux, if this lasts too much longer I’d be interested to see what funky cheeses taste like. He said we had Parmesan, which isn’t a funky cheese but one I still don’t like, so I gave a chunk of it a try.

Verdict: at the end of the bite, I eventually get a lovely sense of salty umami, but unfortunately getting there means going through a chewing-on-paste flavorless phase that is unpleasant. Ah well!

As regards my previous post about not having a sense of smell or taste right now: I can now taste salt in things that did not taste salty before. The Wrangler, from Torchy’s Tacos, that [personal profile] myrialux got me the other day…the brisket was all salt. Normally I don’t notice any.

The other taco I ate, a Trailer Park, was fine—it’s a fried chicken finger and [personal profile] myrialux’s guess that the texture would be satisfying to me was correct. Did not notice anything saltier than usual.

(Granted I eat on the heavier side of salt than a lot of people (if you eat a lot of salt there’s more in your saliva that makes it so you need to add more salt to taste it, etc.), so maybe others find Torchy’s brisket unbearably salty, but as I have no health indicators that say it’s currently bad for me, salt’s way down my list of dietary things to consider right now. I only have so much in me to spend on food worries; I’d rather get more bang for my buck.)
